    Thanks for the video, Dave and Evelyn: Quick question: What camera / lens combo were you using while filming the scenes where you are both on camera (when out in nature)? It is a nice image - not too sharp. Were you just using a diffusion filter of some kind? (Didn't see a bunch of halation so I suppose not...)

    To me, it's all about EVF. So far, ANY of the many EVFs out there were horrible for me to look through. To me, EVF was lagging, shimmering and making me nauseous. That has to do with an eye condition I have (I'm nyctalopic), and that prevented me to upgrade to mirrorless. Until now! The Z6III is the first mirrorless with an EVF I actually find usable with my eyes. So yeah, I'm gonna buy it ;-)

    Hi Dave, Ev, thank you for the video. @Dave, you mention at 5:18 the Z8/9 have a faster processor and can do more calculations/s, hence the better AF speed. The Zf, Z6iii, Z8 and Z9 all have the same Expeed 7 processor, I guess you meant the Z8/9 have a full stacked sensor vs partial stacked (Z6iii) and regular BSI (Zf), which will give faster read-out and hence better AF speed.

    I saw another review that said the fast performance of the partially stacked sensor comes at the expense of dynamic range. It stated that the dynamic range is the same as an APSC sensor. Can you confirm that this is the case? The whole point in upgrading from my D7100 to full frame is the better dynamic range so this would be a deal breaker for me.

    The Z 6 III is a great camera. I Sold my Z 6 II as I was NOT impressed with that camera. I think Nikon really needs a Z 50 II or a Z 90 ASAP. I own the Z 9 and Z 8 and the Indigo Blue Z f with a Kontise Leather half case which gives it added protection and a far better grip, that leather half case is in Blue too. If you are undecided on a Z f or a Z 6 III I'd already recommend the Z 6 III. I ONLY use the Z f with the 28 mm SE lens. Of ALL of these cameras the Z 8 is a Rock Star. And with long lens the Z 9. They talk about user experience here and the worst part of shooting the Zf is wrangling that damned flippy screen. It sucks the joy right out of it. At least the Z6iii is a video-centric camera. Are you asking about in stills? Or in video? Gerald Undone did test dynamic range of the common video codecs and found it to be behind some other cameras. Part of this is because Nikon applies less noise reduction than some other cameras (like Sony and Panasonic), However, if one is able and willing to do some noise reudction in post, one can get a bit more dynamic range from the footage coming out of the Z6 III. I have heard a few people state that stacked sensors tend to have an adverse affect on dynamic range. Oh, it will sell very well, don't you worry. 33mpx makes no sense if you have Z7 and Z8. It's good to have a low light king in your line.
      As for price, it's basically the same as A7iv at launch and 33mpx is actually a negative for me as I have Z7 ready and many professionals have two bodies as well and they need a body for good low light performance.

Most of us who don’t make money from this can only justify one body. Maybe if you actually read my comment you could agree or disagree that having 2 versions would have been ideal so people can choose instead of waiting 1-2 years for the z7iii which will no doubt be priced almost the same as z8 and makes absolutely zero sense…

      @RejeRush Před 21 dnem +2

      Hmm... the A7IV released at the same price back in 2021. So counting inflation the price for the Nikon is actually less. Also, a7IV doesn't do 4k60 full frame or RAW video and doesn't have a fast read out sensor. I'm no Nikon stan but this clearly outclasses the A7IV for the same cost.

    • @drewcrawford3211
      @drewcrawford3211 Před 22 dny

      Video file sizes are so insanely different depending on which codec, color space, and frame rate you select, we would have to list about a dozen to even come close to giving a relatively good spread given all the different options.
      For example, N-raw 6k60 got about 8.5min on a 128gb card, apple ProRes Raw was 6.7min, and h.265 4k60 was just over 3hrs on a 128gb.
      Most Apple ProRes Raw and N-Raw formats are huge, like 1.4 gigs per second. So they are massive files no matter what. H.265 you can get down to 150-200mbps depending on if you need 4k 10bit or if 8bit is fine.

      As a pro photographer for nearly 20 years now, whose work has shifted a lot towards video, you just have to live in another mindset. That hardrive you used to buy every other year, now now have to buy multiple during the year. This is what it is, no one forces you to press that little red button, and you can also choose from 1080p 8bit h265 or 6 k raw, no one forces you to shoot 6k raw if the file size is too big. I would say that log 10 bit is already very very good.

    Great review guys a massive improvement and amazing camera , but $3700CAD, 3000 euros ,$4500 AUD, $4900NZD , isn't this too much ?. All good if you have USD $2500 happy days. Makes a bit of sense as Z6II launch was $2000 USD four years ago all good .But due to fluctuations and massive currency disparities in the exchange rates in 2024. Nikon has priced it for strongest global currency right now being USD, we are also seeing a new normal from Japan , Japanese camera shops and companies are not doing business any more in their own weak Japanese YEN. They all like the strength of the USD this has become their de facto currency , just like how South Americans have always used it. Nikon priced and bench marked it up against USD , so for everybody else in the world it's going to be too expensive, so you end up over paying due to terrible exchange rates. This is really disappointing and annoying outside USA as you will get penalised with USD being stronger. So wait 12 months when it goes on sale like the Z8 is now. We see Nikon does lower prices randomly in different markets around world by way of offers and discounts, once the hype goes away as we are not all on the same playing field when it comes to buying capacity.

    • @MattisProbably
      @MattisProbably Před 22 dny +2

      @@shadow479 Let me put it like this, I own a Z7 II and I would have considered the Z6 III if it did come with RAW pre-capture.
      My current camera doesn't have the best AF system for shooting animals but it works well enough. The better AF system of the Z6 III just isn't enough for me to justify getting a camera with a smaller resolution.
      When you shoot animals proper pre-capture is an amazing feature to have. Animals can be very jumpy and unpredictable, given the average human reaction time that turns capturing certain moments into a guessing game... Pre-capture basically cancels out that disadvantage.
      If you shoot JPEG only then I guess it's no issue for you that Nikon does JPEG pre-capture only right now. But I don't.
