I never liked the purple, black, white color scheme until I saw your combination. A purple sticker or splash of purple paint on the white head would complete that look for me. Great job!

R2’s droid type is meant to assist you at home needs and repairing. BB’s droid type was made for repairing ships and flying in them. BB is smaller so he can’t have extra arms and stuff, he is also supposed to go faster because his type is supposed to be used to being on a battle field. That is why he is smaller, gives him more of a chance not to get shot
This is the most amazing thing! If you look back to the video of when you guys built your R2 and pay attention to the people who were building droids next to you! The person on the left chose the same head that you guys did for your BB and then the person on the right chose the same body! It's totally fate!!

When I visited Batuu in September I got an R series all Black. I also bought an R2-D2 with all the accessories including the backpack and personality chips.
Maybe he’ll be less wobbly on some grass, that’s was seems different to me from the droids, the r2 seems more for flat surface or inside homes with tile floors, and bb droids for thick carpet or almost grassy terrains
They crushed my dreams by not having green but the clear stuff is really cool I'd probably go the r2 route and make the classic r2 and paint the blue parts green

When i built my droid in Orlando they really pushed buying the personality chip and accessorizes at the same time as the droid so you could do it all at the same time.
From what I can tell, as far as control, he needs more space and to be constantly moving. The stop and go is what causes him to sway. Once he gets moving, the head stays where it should, but also remember, it's a ball. It's going to move whichever way.
I just booked my reservation to build a droid for our upcoming WDW trip! I know for sure I want an R2-unit, but I cannot decide on a color. I'm torn between red and white or orange and black. But watch me get something entirely different. XD

The color and style you went with would be my choice as well. Did I see a red arrow on the top and bottom halves and should they line up? Maybe that would help with stability and the clunky rolling noises, then again maybe not? Love your vids! 👽
The direction your droid is facing (the side of the head that lights-up) is forward. Then use the forward and back arrows to move forward or backwards. It doesn't go sideways, you have to turn the head and then go forward or backwards. The red, rectangle can be used to turn the head, or the left and right buttons underneath the rectangle. Line-up your red arrows on the base pieces when you connect them and there are two magnets in the head, so when you put the head on top move it around to make sure both sets of magnets connect. LOL, my husband, Dan, is rolling his around right now!
Its head falls off too easily for my liking, I think its ingenious how they did it but as you said, the practicality is not really there. Wish there had been a purple and black head for it in that design.

New batteries helped reduce the rocking. Also whichever way Bb’s head points is forward or up arrow. Pressing the left/right side of the large red button will rotate the head. You can put felt dots on the bottom of BB’s head to reduce scratching but it will also slow it down.

The reason why the BB units are hard to control is due to the lightweight plastic which doesn’t weigh down/balance the droid. Hence the swaying. That said, the BB units have the BEST colors to choice from. The R2 units have primary colors. Nothing punchy. I was desperately trying to fit a 3rd color in the assembly. All I could do: See thru head. Red body. Black decals & primary legs. White tripod short leg. I’m sure there’s a better combo out there.
I got a R2 unit with most of the white body and ended up taking it apart and custom painting it and weathering it. Was so happy when I put it together and it still worked lol

i have a BB unit, i did an all black white and silver theme and gave her a golden bow on the antenna. i found it hard to control at first too, compared to my dads R2 unit, but i got the hang of it after a few days of practise!

I would build a simple black r2-d2 droid because all i ever wear is black nothing else
