- We visited Morgan at Loro Parque's Orca Ocean on Tenerife. We spoke to trainer Idaira Martín Deller and veterinarian Francesco Grande about how she is doing.

It is now around 13 years since Morgan was rescued from the Wadden Sea. Thirteen is also a really lucky number for Morgan. Without the @Loroparquetenerife she probably wouldn't be alive anymore. In the Orca Ocean installation, however, she has not only found a new life but also a wonderful family.
In this video, we talk to an experienced trainer and a specialist veterinarian about how she is doing. Both have only good things to say. Millions of people who took part in Morgan's life and, above all, her fate, will be very happy about this. Her story shows once again how important modern zoos and aquariums are.

Due to her handicap, Morgan is of course also a special animal, which the other orcas and the trainers had to grow accustomed to. For example, new training methods were developed for her because of their hearing impairment. She is also part of various research projects to protect wild orcas.
The Loro Parque Foundation has been working intensively for the conservation of orcas and other wild populations of dolphins for many years. Especially the population in Gibraltar is under special attention. Many advances in conserving this threatened population have only been possible thanks to Loro Parque and its orca husbandry.

Es ist bewiesen, dass das Tier rein aus kommerziellen Zwecken gehalten wird. Gesundheitliche Gründe, warum das Tier nicht resozialisiert werden kann, basieren lediglich auf den Aussagen des Parks. Unabhängige Untersuchungen lässt der Park nicht zu.
Morgan hat deutlich wahrnehmbare Verhaltensstörungen, die der Park als "spielen" runterspielt.
Kurz - das Tier wird auf drastische Art seelisch und gesundheitlich misshandelt und als "Zuchtsau" missbraucht!
NIEMAND sollte in solch Tierqualanstalten gehen und mit dem Kauf einer Eintrittskarte unterstützen!
Es gibt genug Dokumentation, die nicht aus kommerziellen Gründen geschönt wurden, wo man erfährt wie es Morgan wirklich geht und wie skrupellose die gesamte Unterhaltungsindustrie rund um Meeressäuger und das Verdienen mit ihnen abläuft.
Es ist widerlich und abstoßend.
Im einundzwanzigsten Jahrhundert, wo Politiker für mehr Klimaschutz, das bewahren natürlicher Lebensräume und den Schutz von Tieren propagandieren, glänzt es an Heuchelei, was hinter verschlossenen Türen geschieht. Wissentlich.
Die Betreiber und "Trainer", die alles als ach so perfekt bezeichnen, lassen auf die Abgründe des Menschen blicken.

Was wollen Sie mit Stufenzählen? Im Loro Parque und anderen modernen Zoos und Aquarien erreicht man ohnehin die höchstmögliche im Bereich vom Tierwohl. Freiheit erleben die Tiere in der Natur nicht und ist auch kein Bedürfnis von ihnen. Im Loro Parque haben die Orcas auch ein selbstbestimmtes Leben - so entscheiden sie selbst, ob sie an Shows, Trainings oder Ähnlichem teilnehmen. Den Luxus haben viele Menschen zum Beispiel nicht, wenn sie etwa arbeiten gehen, ist der Tag viel fremdbestimmter als der Tag eines Orcas im Loro Parque.
Wie viel Schwachsinn will man wirklich Menschen glauben lassen? Wieso werden Orcas in Gefangenschaft nur halb so alt? Wieso nennen sie einen kleinen Betonpool im Gegensatz zu einem ganzen Ozean "Tierwohl"? Wieso nennen Sie es tierwohl, wenn Orcas von ihren Müttern getrennt werden, obwohl sie in der Natur ein Leben lang bei ihrer Mutter bleiben? Man könnte diese Liste noch ewig weiter führen, Beispiel mit dem Empathie- und Gefühlsvermogen, welches durch Gehirnscans wissenschaftlich bewiesen ist etc etc etc. Einfach nicht mehr hingehen und hoffen das irgendwann diese Shows auf der ganzen Welt verboten werden... Schließlich haben Sie sich mit der Vermenschlichung und dem Freiheitsbegriff und Selbstbestimmungsgedanken endgültig lächerlich gemacht und liefern das beste Gegenargument.

Weder können diese Tiere ihre natürlichen Trieb ausleben noch Rangordnungen ausfechten. Geschweige denn, das sie sich miteinander unterhalten können. Schwertwale schwimmen täglich bis zu 160 km. Diese Haltungsform im Loro Paque mit Tierwohl und Selbstbestimmung in Verbindung zu bringen ist nicht nur unverschämt, es ist auch im Höchstmaß pervers. In freier Wildbahn werden manche dieser Tiere 100 Jahre alt. In Gefangenschaft hingegen nicht einmal die Hälfte. Absolute Scheiße was du da von dir gibst! Wenn du hierzu Nachhilfe brauchst, biete ich sie dir gerne an. Das können wir auch vor laufender Kamera machen.

This is a threatened population. Loro Parque Foundation also enables important resesearch which is impossible in the wild and that benefits orcas around the world. No one makes an orca do a show at Loro Parque - they have the choice every time.
She can join or she can't - it's up to her.
By the way, that's the same with the dolphin, sea lions, and parrots. A show is a creative presentation of daily husbandry training the animals do. It's an enrichment offer for them. If they don't want to take that, it's not a problem and if even no animals want to do it, the show would just get canceled. That's the way Loro Parque does it for over half a century - no animal gets forced into shows.
The training of any animal is based on trust and motivation: no one could force an orca to perform a behavior if they don't want to. Only by establishing strong bonds of trust between trainers and animals is it possible for behaviors to occur consistently. The consistency records of the LP killer whales are extraordinarily high, which could not have been achieved if the animals were unwilling to participate.
Motivation is the key in training. Large predators, such as killer whales, can fast for several weeks. They could easily disobey, as they have evolved to last several weeks without food.

Morgan is severly hearing impaired, she cant survive in the wild. That is why she wasnt reintroduced to the wild. Peta always forgets to mention that fact in their propaganda when they beg for your money. This orca is a rescue.

Beautiful 👑Morgan 🥹what a joy it is to see her thriving today such a far cry from the skinny exhausted sickly whale found fighting to survive back in 2010. Im so happy that she got a 2nd chance and is with people in a facility who are utterly dedicated beyond belief to her every need striving each day to give her the best life possible one she wouldn’t have ever had if people hadn’t stepped in to help her. While I always feel like the main goal is to try and rehab animals to get them back out to their natural environment without solid reputable breeding programs for critically endangered species(like the red & Mexican wolves)as well as good accredited AZA/EAZA zoos & aquariums who play a vital part in giving so many animals new homes when they lack survival skills or are injured so many beautiful creatures would no longer exist on this planet;this is why I will always stand behind the many good facilities out there and the work they do bc it’s worth supporting and it’s amazing passionate work. Also concerning Morgan the main goal was to try and rehab animals to get them back out to their natural environment. That failed because she was too heavily hurt by whatever brought her to the coast in that near-death status. So, the Netherlands made a decision that was in her best interest - to not kill her but bring her to the best installation for orcas worldwide.
Many zoos and aquariums - not only accredited but every institution that actively works for the sake of animals - are needed. Without them, there would be no comprehensive conservation. Also, Morgan took part in or witnessed much research done at Orca Ocean to save threatened wild populations. That's why zoos matter 😊
