  • What is magnetization. How do you test for it and how do you fix it.
    In this video I answer all of these questions and show you how to fix your watch.

    Excellent ! I also thought it was just wild swings, but now I am enlightened :). I was shopping online for a demagnetizer, and saw that some had an option to include a compass, and now I know why there is a compass.

    You can buy these demagnifiers cheap than that on a site called wish and ebay, brought one my self about £6 sterling, Thay are blue with a red button. The good thing about these are when you place your watch on these tools the hands start moving around and I use these for quartz movement watches as well and saved me hundreds of £s because if you didn't renew a battery for a long time the hands can get stuck and you think the watch his broke, put this on the demagnifier and these will free and sticky hands and make the watch work again for little money it's worth it swear by mine and cheap colin from Surrey England 👍 👏 ❤ love the video and showing to people who didn't know this well done x

    Hi James thanks for this video, I have a Vostok that was all over the place and so put it aside. After watching this video I checked it with a compass and then bought a cheap demagnetiser off eBay. I've run it through and it's fixed the watch, now running great again! Thanks again and keep up the great videos 👍

    Excellent video! I bought a refurbished Коммандирски, Soviet Era watch which im told has a hair spring that is particularly susceptible to magnetisation due to high Iron content. If i pick up my Tablet while wearing the watch, it will become magnetised and typically gain 12 minutes per hour. The Soviet (copies of Swiss) watches are gorgeous but they should really come with a Demagnetiser! Im intrigued by your Timer Device; could you provide a link to buy one please? Thanks for this very informative video.

    If a watch's case is steel (or other ferrous metal) it's going to move the compass needle. How do you know it's actually magnetized so as to affect accuracy or simply moving the needle due to it's ferrous metal content?

    • @WATCHingJames
      @WATCHingJames  Před 10 měsíci +1

      You will likely see a change in accuracy.

      Compass is a magnet so how is passing your metal cased watch near it, proving anything?

      @congamonty Před 4 měsíci

      @@WATCHingJames I guess the question is: does it hurt a watch to run it trhough a demagnetizer if you suspect it's magnetized (i.e., moves a compass needle)?

  • @murph8411
    @murph8411 Před rokem +2

    Seiko probably wouldn’t adjust your watch if it was even running at +28s as they rate the 6r35 at -15\+25s but accept slight outliers.
    It’s a pity you didn’t show the watch next to the compass afterwards as well as I’ve rarely seen a watch that won’t move a compass needle at all even if it has been demagnetised or is running perfectly.
    I have a watch that runs as near as 0s per day in any position but will easily move a compass needle. This is a plain old nh35 based watch and because it runs so well I wouldn’t dare demagnetising it.

    • @WATCHingJames
      @WATCHingJames  Před rokem +1

      I would not be playing with it either.
      My best performer is my Longines Hydroconquest. Runs about 1 second fast a week. On wrist experience.

    • @dinoc
      @dinoc Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, because the outside of the case or the bezel can be magnetized and show false "alarm" on the compass or other detector that the watch is magnetized, but the mechanism inside could be just fine (not magnetized). So as long the watch it is still accurate you don't need to de-magnetize it (despite the watch failing on any magnetism detectors).

    Great video James, can I pose a question please, my brother in law has asked me to look at his mechanical watch he has had for 30 years, not used for a few years but its now running 5 hours fast a day! I have tried the compass test and it IS deflecting it..have ordered a demagnetiser but the watch face states anti magnetic, in your knowledgeable opinion could an anti magnetic watch somehow have become magnetised? Thanks for any comment....😊

    • @WATCHingJames
      @WATCHingJames  Před rokem +2

      Yes I think so. They are more anti magnetic but not completely anti magnetic.
      Being that old it will also need a service. The seals will have degraded which will likely have added to the problem.

    • @WATCHingJames
      @WATCHingJames  Před 2 měsíci +1

      There is no need to do it too much. Just a quick back and forth.
      If that does not make a significant difference then the watch may have another issue that needs to be addressed.
