- Climbing El Cap using only our hands and feet! Bron and I made our second trip to Yosemite in spring 2015. We teamed up with Chris Bevins and spent 6 days and 5 nights climbing Freerider. Both Chris and I free climbed every pitch, Bronwyn managed all but a few pitches.

Unimaginable that Alex Honnold free soloed this in 4hrs.
You're not wrong, mind blowing!
There is nothing for comparison. It would be as if someone swam from California to Hawaii.
Yea, totally amazing. Only thing he did different is that he found a route to bypass the part where they jump and grab a ledge.
The Salathe headwall pitches are so grim for free climbing that even Alex Honnold went around them.
Joakim Nordberg he didn’t bypass it, just chose to take the safer option using the karate kick
thanks, great video, really helped me to understand what a freak Honnold is.
Yes sir..
Honnold is not human
@@mynameisbello5521 He is not built like a human, nor does he experience fear like a human.
@@josephastier7421 well that's soo true.. chapeau
Absolutely loved it !! As a climber I still cannot imagine being that casual on El Cap.
You guys are so fun I love to watch you climb
I know. Mostly the very cute girl climber! I would love to belay with her :)
What a super film!!! 3 years after the fact, I love this lil clip!!! THANK YALL PEACE!!
People out climbing having fun, that is the best in the world, so cool to see you climbing hard and having a blast
Okay, new favourite video on CZcams. You all rock, it was filmed perfectly and you seemed to have had a dun time climbing this epic!
Awesome climbing, great fun, groovy music...a total blast to watch! Thank you!
Love this video, just watched it for at least the 100th time, makes me just want to go out and backpack around the sierras for the rest of my life.
Great vid, great music. THX 4 the inspiration and the shared joy.
it´s by far my favorite climbing video!!
Elite and still down to earth and funny ... love this.... amazing!
Such a good video!. Both fun to watch and very inspiring!. Please keep posting :)
"Unlike Moonlight Buttress, a route that Honnold has never fallen on, the Boulder Problem pitch of Free Rider has spit off Honnold repeatedly. It’s an insecure V7 crux, 1,700 feet up the wall."
Yet he still did it free solo. OMG.
IKR? I've climbed El Cap a few times and can't watch the videos. Gut wrenching.
Those first ten seconds are the best bit of climbing film fun since the last ten seconds of the Valley Uprising trailer! 😄
Joris Casaer - Is it possible the rope could snap? That's a long drop down on a rope isn't it?
@@starcloud4959 look up Dan Osman.
@@AstralHiGH That is a completely different story. Dan Osman's rope didn't snap from climbing a rock face. Osman's rope snapped, first of all because he was doing a form of bungee jumping off of high cliff's with a certain kind of rope. And the time his rope snapped was because he had already done the jump once with the gear and successfully completed his jump. Then he decided to go back months later to retrieve the rest of his gear, and that same rope was still rigged but was outside and laid bare to mother nature for all of those months and very weak because of this. Dan Osman decided against advice from his friends to go ahead and trust the same rope that has been out in the rain and snow for months and jump again with it. Well, needless to say, he died that day from that poor choice. He knew deep down that rope might not hold and that it could be compromised by the weather over time. But was stubborn and paid for it with his life. He had a young daughter when he passed who is alive today and keeps her dads name alive. She is an avid outdoors person herself, just like her dad!
3:40 who gets the chills thinking of free solo?
Just good vibes... One of the best climbing videos out there!
Nice video, felt the funky feeling in my little warrior seeing some of those heights !!!
Still one of my favorite videos
Great climbing great music selection and very wicked video! Thanks for your upload!!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
What a great short film. Inspiring!!
Create ur own stardom, that's sweet, rite on so inspiring watching people climb together.
These are some real hippies. It’s not fast you solo, it’s just the adrenaline you get from getting up there 👆, and the memories you build on the way up .
I bet these folks have a true understanding of how great a feat Honnold’s free solo was.
what a great video, looks like so much fun
Bellissime riprese,
Complimenti, questo approccio alla parete allegro e spensierato é semplicemente magnifico
I'm flabbergasted you stay so chill when you fall
Oh my god that first part is PSYCHO haha much love :p
Beautiful video you three, thanks for sharing!
Is this the guy in the unicorn onesy?!!!
i was wondering the same thing.
Awsome vid man! And congratz on the climb!! You really look like a great people :)
The frog is enjoying his little climb too ! :)
The footage on Boulder problem was GREAT.
Awesome video! You look like fun people and good friends. I do have to admit I'm mostly just here to at least try to comprehend what Alex Honnold just did the other week. I don't even climb, but what Alex just did, I believe is the single most impressive and monumental achievement in the history of sports.
I've been spending all day just trying to comprehend what he did, reading countless articles and watching dozens of videos. Still don't feel like I fully grasp his accomplishment.
This is probably the best article/interview I have read so far. I've been doing the same. I've probably seen 10 or so CZcams videos and read well over a dozen interviews.
www.alpinist.com/doc/web17s/newswire-honnold-freerider-solo
andywillhite Yeah I've read through that one a few times already. Great article. And has actual pictures from the climb (especially the one of him at the boulder problem)
andywillhite - and to jump the boulder problem 2:58..without a rope..that's one hell of a boulder problem.
Puts into perspective not only how small we really are compared to Mother Nature but how much of a mental feat free soloing el cap was. Absolutely 100% dialed in and present. Even with rope that shit looks absolutely horrifying and they look like some bad ass climbers. Such an underrated and under appreciated sport.
This film captures the real core meaning of climbing. This is what climbing is all about. Having fun! I really enjoyed your vid! (and the other ones you've made) Much better than other self promoting pros stuff imho.
Hiroki Ide if you have alot of money you could do this, even the best climber might not have a chance because of how expensive this sport is.

Great video - looks like you had a total blast! What a climb! Although the whole time I was thinking about how Alex Honnold felt climbing there.
Really enjoyable video. Thanks!
Cool to see the dynamic moves.
An inspiring video. You must have a lot of stamina to keep climbing and smiling on such an expedition!
That looked like one heap of fun! Great stuff...
Amazing film!!!
you guys are amazing!
Spectacular . Awesome times infinity
Beautiful video. And great camera work.
Great video guys and lady 😎 enjoyed watching very much
Dude solving boulder problem. You kick ass!
Cool vid guys 👌👍. Amazing stuff
Just another day for these guys
I like the addition of the shark to the porch swing. I don't think I could build up the nerve to do that.
Liked very relax style of the video - this way the climb looks easy (I am sure I will never get to this difficulty level). Good job with the video and the climb! Btw. Shark was very cool!
Love it guys!!
Honnold soloed it today!!!
He sure did. But, give this team some props, free climbing the free rider is a colossal achievement.
I have props for the team but free climbing 12c/d shouldn't be considered a colossal achievement.Free climbing the Dawn Wall was one, or onsighting 14d, or flashing a V14. These are clossal achievements.
Gall Anonim, I'm not sure what you're climbing level is. But most people who starts climbing will never climb 12c/d, let alone to apply it to a big wall. Climbing at that level is considered elite. But if you want to diminish the accomplishment by comparing it to the accomplishments of the top 5 climbers of the world, well you go right ahead.
Well, I need to start to consider myself as an elite climber. My max RP is 7c(french scale, which roughly translates to 12c/d) and I'm 6'5" and weigh around 200 pounds. My cousin climbs 14c and certainly does not consider himself as 'elite'. There is still room to grow. I know what I'm talking about. I don't say it's nothing(would like to try Freerider one day, but I give a big F to the US gov. and their visa policy), but definitely not a "a colossal achievement". Maybe if they did it OS with no falls(Pete Whittaker was close, but no cigar).
Ok respect, I'm more of a 12a/b climber myself. But I give major props to anyone free climbing the free rider, it's a proud line. Once Trump is gone hopefully you can give it a go one day. As for your cousin, most surveys show that less than 2% of climbers can climb 5.14, so being in the top 98.5% of all climbers sounds elite to me.
Outstanding!
Bravo une très belle vidéo qui montre bien l'esprit de l'escalade
AMAZING!
Damn, I wish I wasn’t terrified of heights. This looks so fun!
Don’t be. If you aren’t terrified of heights you’ll eventually fall to your death.
I did the Salathe in '91 (with a partner + not just one but several ropes) and one thing I didn't see on it was chalk.
hit the like button 10 seconds in... that opening clip is too good :')
good work out, great job guys!!
Great video!
Nice vlog guys!
So freakin TIGHT! great video
Sending it on Free Rider is the holy grail.
I will watch you having fun )) lots of trust in the ropes and equipment )))
I worked with wind turbines. 140m up and down a ladder and youre done for a day... even though i have not the first idea about climbing, i can see that what Honnold did was one of the biggest achievement in any sport... 4 hours...
Btw. how can these guys sleep up there? i wouldnt be able to stop thinking about that tiny layer of fabric being the only thing between me and me exploding on the ground like a bag of water...
4:54 "The Sewer" - yes and this name inspired me for the following question. On a climb that lasts several days how to the climbers perform their bodily functions?
They shit in a bag :D
you are nice people :)
Awesome shark ride to kick off the vid.... Good times!!!
Love jah music!!
When you watch Alex Honnold climbing Freerider, it feels natural, almost easy. But these guys remind people like me who do not climb that in fact this is really hard stuff :O
pourtoukist , I know, you are so right!
At 8:08. I've done a little climbing (only a novice) but there is no way I could sleep on a portaledge. That scares me more than the climbing.
congrazt seeems a huge victory and a lot of fun... i go back to mine 6a :P
best vid ever
Awesome video! Thanks for that. Surprised at that frog that lives up there!
Question: how did you prevent your cameras from falling down ? :D did you have straps on them ?
Love it
Hey man what do you use for a camera? Your videos are super clear and high quality
Wowwww beatiful pictures
How do you not have nightmares
Can someone explain to me why that part is called the sewer? I hope there’s not actual poop involved 😬
Guys, now is time for the next challenge - free solo downwards... Who is the next crazy?
Is it easy to get back down?
You guys are cool
Man I wish I knew what a Luna bar taste like
I always wonder if one of them had an emergency and needed to descend to the ground immediately, would it be possible without a parachute or sth?
They would probably try to call emergency services first and they would repel down to get them. If not, most climbers would probably be able to get down before just giving up and jumping...
superbe !!!
Great video but I have a serious question. How do you do a number 2 up there? I ask because I would be shitting my pants after the first 15 feet 🤔
In a doggy bag my dude
Honnold is a God among men ...
Rock climbers are the coolest people on the planet.
They are just people that hate life so they are always tempting death. Two people just died today rock climbing in Yosemite I hope it was not those 2 guys.
We have our priorities straight
starlite556 they are cool I started climbing 9 months ago and can barely wait to get to a real cliff. You just don't want ti tako any risks and you are scared, but it is ok
Yes we are ;)
Thank you!
Sorry for the question, but where do they 💩? and when it's down the wall and someone passes down there?🤔
You use a toilet bolted to the wall
Nice Chune!
Nice dyno!
Salute to Alex Honnold who Free Solo!
Can we please stop with Alex soloed it. Everyone knows he did and he is a great climber, I hope he is done soloing because at my age I know how that story plays out. What I noticed from this climb was how much fun you were all having. I have not climbed in a long time but that is my memories of climbing, having fun with my good friends. There is a bond with your climbing partners that is like nothing else. Thanks for sharing your climb, it looked like a truly great adventure.
That looked like quite a ride at 5:40 XD
Wicked!
Nice footage... im curious about the dolphin matter
Emanuel Garcea Shark?
At night things get freaky on the swing
scary but looks fun....but dangling off a rop scares the shit outta me
2:58 please tell me Alex didn't have to make this move to complete the climb
I think that is easy to compared, "Other sections required him to down climb highly technical moves as hard as 5.12a to access features that would allow him to traverse into the next crack system. "
bodybait your comment doesn't make sense. wha are you quoting?
+beastwork he is quoting the article at alpinist.com/doc/web17s/newswire-honnold-freerider-solo
He didn't jump, he did it the same way the guy after him did it (kicked his foot out to the side).
There's an alternative approach to this same problem called the "karate kick" where he kicks his left leg onto the wall on the left, and uses friction to support himself (basically what the black-shirt guy does around 3:20).
An important part of the film "Free Solo" was whether to do the jump or karate kick, but I don't want to spoil the movie for you. Just gotta watch it yourself.
