    1949 Mercury Monterey Lead Slead
    Vin: 9CM162748
Straight out of Nevada is this Custom 1949 Mercury Monterey Lead Sled. The build on this Merc started out with a rust free Nevada car, and every inch of this Lead Slead has received star treatment. Under the hood sits a GM 350ci V8 connected to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine is dressed with lots of chrome, and all of the sheet metal under the hood is custom hand built. There has been many hours of body modification done to this Mercury and it looks amazing. The top is chopped 6 inches, and the body is channeled 3 inches on a custom chassis. The interior is all custom done by Bob Devine, a Good Guys Show Winner. The ride in this Mercury is like you are on a cloud, and you can drop it down on the ground or lift it up to ride height with air ride suspension. Mercury Lead Sleads like this don't come around often!

4 years after original posting I came back for a 2nd watch because this car is "amazing". Potholes in the Boston area are so numerous and large that this car would bottom out so I could not drive it here it would have to live the life of a garage or museum queen.

My dad's friend had a Mercury Monterrey exactly like in the video but it was brown and little rusty. Never gonna forget when I experience riding it along with my father and his friend first and last time when I was 7 years old back in 1991

My cousin has one all original light brown color. She's had it sitting up for about 40 years now. I'm still trying to get it.

That's a beautiful car, the only thing that bothers me is how low it is, I'm scare to drive it that it will get damaged due to it being way too low as some drive ways will damaged that car or worst speed bumps, why do they people make them so low, do they not think or just isn't bright in the head? I don't get it!

True, he killed himself in a new 55 Porsche 550 Spyder. Jim Stark, his character in Rebel Without a Cause would like it. People confuse the actor with the character sometimes.
I’m not so sure that James Dean himself would turn his nose up at a 49 Merc like this. He might like to cruise around sometimes. I’m not a James Dean expert or super-fan or anything so maybe not but it kinda was his image.
Too bad he had to live fast and die young. He had a great career ahead of him. Hard to believe he’d be 90 years old if he was still alive today.

I wish I could design super cool resto mods! This car I would add Tesla Wing doors. Future look tires. Exhaust through the side and door. Ford F-150 suspension and a 1000HP Toyota or Nissan motor! Just for starters... lol
