Replace an Air Door Actuator on a 2016 Kia Sportage Without Disassembling the Entire Dash

  • If using the air recirculation button in your car causes a mysterious knocking sound, you very well may need a new air door actuator. Come along as I replace the actuator in my 2016 Kia Sportage without dismantling the entire dash. It requires a little patience, small-ish hands, and a stubby Phillips head screwdriver. (And a good dog to keep an eye on things) 😊
I ordered the actuator from O'Reilly Auto Parts, a local parts store. They had good reviews and a great tool for matching your car to the right part.
    Thanks for watching!

This help me a lot and thanks Ro You I did it as you said but I have two recommendations for others DIY people.
First: You don't need to disconnect the battery here because if you do exactly as she did then is just one plug without touching airbags plugs.
Second: when you remove the faulty one you can notice the white wheel thing that open the vent that probably is not elin the same position and to fix that just connect the plug into the new actuator while hanging and put the key in ignition so the new actuator will reset in the old wheel position.
And that's it! Install as she did.

Exactly same place on a 2011 Sorento.
Thanks for finding out there isn't an easy way in from the top. I won't be disassembling the dash, but i will have to get a smaller stubby phillips head so i get my hand in there. or a few extensions and a right angle bit holder.

Very friendly and smart. My 2010 Sorento blower is working (I can hear it, it's new) but NO air thru the vents, your
suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I’d like to take a shot at it. I’m trying to find out if it’s in a similar location for a 16 optima. Nice work

There can be more than one actuator depending on your model. Best of luck!

Thanks for sharing! This is the best and closest anyone has come to actually helping me. I think I damaged mine by spraying compressed air either up from underneath there or through the vents outside when I got carried away with my airhose. Now I have that clicking sound.
How did you determine which actuator was the problem? Isn't there one on each side?
My clicking sound is coming more from the drivers side.
Also, a not related question. Was your sportage made in Korea?
Mine was, and it has 312,000 miles and is still running great.
    Thanks for any answers!

Thank you! My vehicle has more than one actuator also. I pinpointed the location from sound. Hopefully the driver side replacement is a bit easier. Not sure where my car was manufactured but I understand they also make them in Georgia. Have a great day and good luck with your project

@mainelydiymom Hello! Yes it was definitely my driver's side actuator. I unplugged it just to test if that was the right one, and the clicking stopped. My made an appointment with my local mechanic for repair, but when I plugged it back in, bingo bango, it started working again with no noise and heat working again. Who can explain these things. I'm not complaining 😌 I love my Sportage. 312,000 miles and still running good. Thanks again for the post, and love from Florida USA ❤️ 🇺🇸.

What is the part number of the actuator?

    • @mainelydiymom
      @mainelydiymom  Před 5 měsíci

It depends on the vehicle. For my 2016 Kia, the part used was Murray Climate Control 5 Terminal Blend Door Actuator - DA1231. You can search for parts on a good auto parts store website for your specific car. Good luck with your project!
