By this time, they already had an album that had sold over 2 million copies. They had probably moved to Los Angeles by then. A lot of famous people do that.

I believe they moved to Los Angeles around 1975. I grew up in Illinois very close to where they started and they pretty much disappeared from the local area in 1975. I was also extremely lucky to get to do a short stint for them doing security. I new a guy who new a guy. It was one of those deals. I was posted on the right side of the stage and was primarily there to stop anyone who decided to rush the stage. This was back in 1985. They were in their prime or I should say really rolling from the success of the Hi Infidelity album, Good Trouble and Wheels are Turning. Good Trouble and Wheels are Turning were only about a quarter as successful as Hi Infidelity but even that got them certified as Double Platinum. That's how good Hi infidelity was. It was certified 5 X Platinum in Canada and in the States it was certified Diamond!! It was the best selling album of all albums in 1981. It stayed at #1 for 14 weeks!!!! Here is a bit of trivia that is somewhat a travisty in my eyes. REO has 14 albums that were certified Gold through Diamond inonewayor another. These are a mix of live, studio and compilation albums. Cheap Trick has 9. Same mix and such. Cheap trick is in the Rock Hall of Fame. REO Speedwagon is not and probably never will be according to Kevin Cronin. I believe they deserve it. They were the Band that gave birth to the "Power Ballad". That is definitely a contribution unique of other bands. I like Cheap Trick, but I think REO should be in as well.

I saw this tour and it was fantastic. I have seen any videos from it since 1979 and forgotten how good they actually they were on this tour. I saw twice on the Infidelity tour and they weren't nearly as good. Just watch the video, you compare! I think they said they were LA because they were playing in Germany and LA is a lot more known than Illinios.

Best thing they ever did besides hiring Kevin is getting rid of the bald bass player and adding Brad Hall with the rock hair. Worst thing they ever did was fire Gary.

They really didn't want to get rid of Gary. They held on as long as they could but unfortunately his drinking and cocaine just got the best of him. Watch REO Speedwagon Behind the Music. It spells it out very good. Gary is brutally honest regarding his demons and for the most part they all tell it all. Gary is genuinely a very nice guy. Great video for any REO fan! I actually stopped on this video because I was at this place in Hamburg during this performance. I was stationed in Germany back in 1979 and got over there around August or September of that year. I know from what I remember it was a long ass drive from where I was stationed. We went on a road trip. We worked 5 day shifts. They were 12 hour shifts. 5 nights then a 24 hour break, then 5 days, then 5 days off. You could do almost anything in Germany with 5 days. Anyway we started driving, one of the guys knew someone near Hamburg and they asked him to come down because they had some for us to do. It was kept a secret. Apparently they already had this planned out. I was basically at the mercy of where these guys wanted to go since I was the new guy. Anyway we ended up watching REO and it was awesome! All of my initial REO Speedwagon exposure came while I was in Germany. " You can Tune a Piano but You Can't Tuna fish" was my first Album it had been out about a year by the time I got it, then Nine Lives and then a couple years later Hi Infidelity came out and the rest is history. If I'm not mistaken this was recorded for some German TV show I think it was called Rockpalast or something like that.
