The little circle ⭕means quarter of a nuqta because there is three measurements in Arabic calligraphy (nuqta, half a nuqta, and jazm witch is the little circle).
Are western calligraphy tools appropriate to do arabic ? I've learned a bit of western calligraphy and I have pens for it. Do you advise me to buy a qalam if I want to try arabic calligraphy ? Very good video by the way, I've really enjoyed it.

This Qalam grows in Harar Ethiopia. you can also buy local made Ink called dibet.
