  • JJ and Rudy Jimenez are a brother and sister team making Mexican-American fusion candy out of their parents' home in Brenham, Texas. After seeing dulces enchilados blow up on social media last May, Rudy was eager to try the sweet, sour, and spicy treats. So JJ and Rudy went to the store and whipped up a batch of their own. From there, the company Enchilositos Treats was born.

We shouldn’t show our process while others in the industry do show their staining and painting processes and fact of the matter is, if people like what you do and you do it consistently. Then it doesn’t matter who knows how to do it, people will come to you for reliability and convenience. Everyone can do this for sure but maybe .5% will even try to make it from home and likely even less will try to make an actual business of it..

So have you heard from the attorneys from the candy you’re using as your base? It’s one thing to make candies from another brand for home use but another to use their whole recipe for their candy incorporated into your final produce.

So is the $105k before or after expenses?
Also, Texas has 15.3% self-employment tax and split between the 2.
    That's anywhere between $25-44k a year salary

I hate to be Debby downer. But if you remove the unit of cost raw materials and divide the profit between them, that’s only pre-tax of $2.1k per month for each of them.

Scaling is a delicate balancing act of risk and it’s only worth it if they can prove their execution. But congrats to them if it looks like they have found product-market fit.

@Maxey This is reality of the hustle. It’s the truth for wannabe business owners who quit their jobs and jump in on the ship for a big number only to be let down. I’m a business owner and investor myself and can tell you it’s very very hard.
