Nonetheless, she's of puerto rican descent. It's not her fault she doesn't speak spanish fluent, it's her parent's fault.
her spanish has improved over the years, she used to not even be able to do an interview in spanish at all. i commend her for trying, many american born latinos do not speak a word of spanish whatsoever but still claim they are latino. eve mendes, not THAT is terrible spanish

She tries, and that should be good enough for any one of us. It may not be perfect spanish, but then again, she can't be perfect at everything.

Puerto Rico is América so incorrect. And she’s from New York. Her PARENTS are from Puerto Rico. Not every parent passes the language down to their children to avoid discrimination.

di que esperaba si ella no vivio en puerto rico que pretende que lo saque de la nada!
pero cuando uno aprende un idioma y a mi me pasa con el ingles. a uno cuando ya lleva mucho tiempo hablandolo y estudiandolo uno se llega a confundir y el la pronunciacion e pierde un poco y mas si uno habla español todo el tiempo.
uno no puede decir que alguien no es puertoriqueño solo porque no domina el español uno es latino por sangre no por el idioma que aprendio primero!

That doesn’t mean she speaks Spanish. I’m half Mexican half Costa Rican and Spanish was my first language but a lot of my family members didn’t pas Spanish on to their kids to avoid discrimination.
actually J.Lo's spanish accent is even better than Selena's... Both didn't grow up speaking spanish and couldn't speak the language very well.

I should have probably left an emoji. 🤣 my parents are immigrants too and while they were insistent we spoke Spanish, they also told us stories of how when they were learning English, they would get in trouble for speaking Spanish. I think it traumatized some parents and didn’t pass it down.

@@tayomatic I didn’t talk to her long because I was too shocked. Lol I was where Matt and Ben were filming their new movie and it was their last day and I met Matt and he was super nice. I was waiting for Ben to come out when an Escalade pulls up next to me and the driver opens the door and she steps out. I didn’t even recognize her because she wasn’t wearing make up or dressed up. But I quickly did and asked for a picture and she said yeah and I talked to her about Selena and how much that movie meant to us Latinos and she said thank you. Then I said congratulation on the engagement in Spanish. (This was a week for the Vegas wedding) and she said thank you. She was nice but REALLY quiet. She looked exhausted so she might have been tired.
@@tayomatic I just think she adapts to whatever partner she has. Alex was louder and more social and tried to keep up with that but I don’t think that’s who she is. I say she was exhausted (which she might have been) but I’ve also been watching fan videos this summer and saw pictures (bear with me. I have anxiety. Lol) and she never smiles in pictures with fans. I think there’s also the constant crap she has to deal with (rumors and junk) and for example I was told by my friends I would never meet her because she’s stuck up and she’s this and she’s that and she wasn’t at all and when my friends asked about it, they said ‘was she alone?’. @@Nazaba09 Selena’s Spanish was GREAT by 1995. I’m from Mexico native speaker, she had almost fully mastered the language. Can’t say the same about Jlo
