  • Filmed April 24th 2024. In early 1973 The Metro Center Mall was opened. Closed on June 30th 2020. A Walmart and a storage facility are currently open, on the outer road surrounding the mall named Metro Parkway are still restaurants and businesses. I grew up near here from the late 1970s to the mid nineties. This mall was always a great spot to meet up with friends and family. In the late 80s when I received my driver license my friends and I would cruise around the mall until late during the summer. My memories include seeing many great iconic movies here which include E.T., original Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Star Wars and The Goonies. I will miss Metro Center Mall will always have a special place in my heart ❤️ goodbye old friend and thank you for the memories! UPDATE Demo is scheduled for fall of 2024 according to local news channel 12 NBC.

Worked at former Office Depot on perimeter for 13 years. New bus transit center helps me get from Peoria to light rail in one step, rather than waiting for up to a half an hour to get to the 19th and Dunlap transit center.

How come it's still standing. I thought they were tearing it down

I don’t have an answer for when but I did see large dumpsters scattered around the property when I was filming

North Phoenix is several miles more north, not where Metrocenter is

@jfriz5308 You’re absolutely correct but-when I lived in the area in the late 70s and 80s, this was considered Northwest Phoenix! Thank you for watching. 👍🏾

Yes it’s scheduled to be torn down soon. They may have already started, I haven’t driven by since the filming of this video.
