- It's the third time Matt Allwright has caught the scumbag Varey family ripping off people especially OAP's and snooping round for cash/valuables, working dangerously and using a false name it's not James Varey it's John Varey.

I run a garden company, 25 quid an hour and I do a good job, clear up and I make a living . im not rich but my clients love me. why do these criminals get away with this ?

Yeah it is ridiculous. These guys could afford to do the most professional job ever for the outlandish prices they charge, yet they do shoddy dangerous work to boot.

The best show ever on TV. Me and my dad ( sadly passed ) use to make sure we don't miss a episode. I'm still here now watching. I'll say 2024 but it's not on telly no more. Such a shame.

The humour in Rogue Traders is brilliant! Matt has some guts facing these criminals, but if they get caught they’ll only have themselves to blame.

Absolutely shocking! I’m a qualified arborist and this is the type of job I’d nip in and do to help the old girl out when I’m local. Just to stop mugs like this ripping her off. Just sort me out enough for a pint later. Encountered customers who’ve had ridiculous quotes from previous “tree surgeons” on a few occasions.

$25 for 1/4 acre block mowed with clippings and other rubbish taken away...
Quoted the local pub $60 to prune the entire car park area but the proprietor paid us $100...
Pensioners got half price...
And if I had the chance I'd charge the same as I did back in '93 given the cost of living for our oldies...

Not sure if this is correct, but I remember hearing that the only reason Dan got the job on Rogue Traders to begin with is because he was sleeping with someone high up at the BBC. Makes sense, as the bloke added nothing to Rogue Traders when he was on there.
I recently gave up tree care after 20 years as an arborist. It is unbelievable how many cowboys operate in our largely unregulated industry. There are so many companies who look legitimate and talk the talk but who dont understand the first thing about trees. Then there are the travellers. So common to see the results of appalling workmanship and to hear the customer was absolutely ripped off. The good news is that there are a small percentage of very excellent pros out there. You gotta use those guys.

There's also a difference between "gardeners" and a "tree surgeon" my uncle is a tree surgeon, he studied agriculture etc. It should never cost anywhere near that much, pruning a tree means having the right equipment etc which is why you get someone else to do it, but it's not tough, removing a tree takes longer and is more complicated depending on the location. He's diagnosed a tree with a particular fungus in return for a sack of spuds and half dozen eggs lol

I used to work for gipsies and my "boss" was an asshole he even hit me a few times they try and pray on the homeless people promising a wage and maybe even a caravan to live in what you actually get is a plot on their land where you are basically trapped half the wage you agreed on "I agreed £40 a day" I got £20 and sometimes no wage at all you don't get a toilet or a shower and the "caravan" you live in is basically just a box on wheels that are flat with half the door missing, ur only real option is to just run away and never look back "which is what I did" all they have to do is change mobile number business name and there leaflet and there doing the same thing again

I am a gardener. Charge people £14 an hour. It's cheap, but the same customers have been with me for many many years, their regular even through the winter, I don't even do trees. It's a specialist job! I call in a friend if trees need doing. He's a tree surgeon. He gives me a very decent deal, which is past on to the customer. I am called back due too decent work provided. Its how you should work!

Best entertainment is to get the muppets to trim a hedge with a BIG wasp nest in it. Every year I catch a few queens and give them a "head start" in neighbours hedges. So far we've (sorry) WEEDED out a lot of cowboy "gardeners". Some spend a few days in A&E. Watching them howl as they get nuked is just priceless. Remember to "smoke up" the nest before to quieten the wasps down a bit then they won't be detected until it's well, WAY too late.
