Possibly the most famous living graffiti artist, Leonard McGurr got his start on the streets of New York in the seventies with his “Futura 2000” tag popping up on subway lines across the city and catching the eye of Andy Warhol and Jean-Michele Basquiat. He went on to launch what many consider to be the first streetwear brand, toured with the Clash, and recently popped up at Paris Fashion Week creating a live painting during Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton show. His work is known worldwide and his footprint on our modern creative culture is undeniable.

I always keep on going back to this video because how much I love Futura 2000 artwork and style, influencing streetwear and the art culture. I also have one of his recent piece of the Comme des Garçons Shirt collab with Futura, one of the best underrated collabs he’s done!!

Futura 2000 is definitely a Sreetwear, Culture, and Art Icon. He is also responsible for the greatest Dunk collabs of all time.

Where these guys used to live and hang in West London (Shepherds Bush, Westbourne Park, Ladbroke Grove) was just a short bus ride from where i used to live (NW8)

Man I loved his EARLY work, with robots, gears, and wild color schemes and his smooth curvy style. Very UNIQUE and WAY, WAY AHEAD of his time.
But alas, he got WAY TOO ABSTRACT for me and strayed way too far from his roots. But no doubt he's a genius and his talent and eye and ideas are SO DOPE and always fresh. I miss his old work alot great color schemes and complex pieces. INCREDIBLE. He inspired me alot and my tag style! Would loveto meet him someday. I'm from Philly, and I was kinda the Futura of Philly. But nowhere NEAR as talented as he was. But he influenced me ALOT! His shapes were incredible!
