Darjeeling Himalayan Railway DHR Tanago, Mai 2018

In May 2018 we ran our second freight train adventure on the DHR: as usual we started at Siliguri with 5 freght cars... but lost 3 on the way this time: derailments, technical issues. At the end we made it with only 2 freight wagons to Darjeeling - but we made it!
Thanks for this lovely film. I traveled on the train in December 1986. I loved Darjeeling. Greetings from North Wales, UK.
Wunderbares Video. Hier bekommt "Abenteuer Eisenbahn" eine ganz andere Bedeutung.
We used to go to Darjeeling twice a year in the 60's and 70's on this train during the school holidays to visit friends who lived there. This is an excellent video. Have not been there since 1979. Many more people these days! Live in Kunming City Yunnan China now!
I rode this train from Darjeeling to Siliguri in August 1975 when I was working in India. It was an unforgettable experience. Thank you.
I've never rode by this train even though I live in Darjeeling district...I don't find it amusing or thrilling in any way tbh like many foreigners do...but that's just my feeling anyways
A wonderful video! Views, music, machinery in full full balance! Camerawork is excellent!
This is my hometown The Queen of Hills -Darjeeling ... The Legendary DARJEELING HIMALAYAN RAILWAYS ...UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE .... DEVELOPED AND DESIGNED BY THE BRITISH DURING 1800..... MARVELLOUS PIECE OF ENGINEERING......MANY LEGENDARY FILMS HAVE BEEN SHOT IN THIS TRAIN
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Just found this fantastic video, thank you so much. You have captured the real image of running steam on the DHR and with freight too, not just the tourist image
Absolutely amazing montage!
Thanks a ton for featuring the DHR of my hometown in the most comprehensive way ever on CZcams.
Greetings from India.
Who on earth could dislike this excellent video?
This is a masterpiece!!!
Riveting video. Liked every minute of it. The music was excellent and the scenery magnificent too.
Wonderful ! Many thanks for this movie and best greetings from Poland !
Thanks...From Kentucky USA...!
Fantastico video. Dankon.
Wonderful video, very lovingly shot. Thanks for sharing.
splendid photography and beautiful soundtrack, well worth watching again and again.
Absolutely beautiful. Supper was a simple bread omelette, a cup of tea, and my pipe, of course, enjoying this fabulous video. Thank you for sharing it.
The iron horse that keeps on working. Very nicely done report, much insight into the lifestyle of the people and their surroundings. Great cinematography, too.
Unbelievably beautiful, thank you for sharing.
Great journey - exactly as I remebered it 65 years ago! A beautifully put togther film.
The story beautifully told; wish I was there. Lucky people in so many ways. Thank you and greetings from SW England.
I think i saw michael portillo breaking up coal.
Great shots, thank you!
Bring back memories of goods train . Now it doesn't ply. It became a history . Present generation has never seen this goods train in Darjeeling Himalayan Railway .
Who needs space tourism when we have such a wonderful time travel tourism at our fingertips. Beautiful place with amazing cinematography.
...because "live" is always much more exciting than "just" seeing it on a screen!
certainly, but those who cannot, this video is still a joy to behold and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I loved this- it made me smile, laugh , at times I felt tears, a whole package. The rhythms, the scenery, the human cameos... and above all that beautiful music!
What is the soundtrack??!!
Viele danken. The best film I’ve seen in ages.
I won’t get there now.. so this is a great substitute for the real thing. From Anglesey
Superb video. I did that journey many years ago and was allowed to actually travel in the engine cab. Naturally I had to pay the guys some 'thank you' rupees, but it was a journey I would never forget.
AMAZING!! Beautiful filmwork. Thank you for bringing me to a place I won't see in my lifetime.
A very nice film! Thank you for sharing it with us!
What a tough life those people must have!
Great video, thank you.
This is a superb video story of this train, great views and angles and action throughout. Very interesting the whole way, a delight to see. and NOT swamped with stupid music, but gentle, in-character instrumentals very tastefully done. Thank you. What a charmer.
A charming railway, beautifully filmed
Glad to see the old steamers still working, much better than rusting away or forgotten in a shed somewhere. Sounds like they could use a tuneup, the exhaust beat is rather uneven. Really not making nearly as much smoke as they could be either, they're hard workers and pull a good draft when they do. Loving the stack talk as they climb the grade.
Uneven exhaust note is a timing adjustment. Depending on the style of gear, it should be a relatively easy fix. I’ve heard lots worse
Ideally they shouldn’t be making any smoke at all as that can clog the boiler tubes. It’s a sign of poor coal quality as the burn is incomplete and leaves a lot of particles in the exhaust.
great documentary .thanks to cameraman and entire team.
This is a real railroad. Not a corporation in Europe ...
Vielen Danken! Das war wunderbar!
Thank you for a superb video. Beautifully filmed and excellent choice of locations. How lucky to get steam all the way. I did this railway back in 2008 but mainly behind diesel. I still cherish the journey even though the distant mountains were shrouded in cloud. Let's hope it survives after countless problems with landslips etc.
What a wonderful video to start my day with! Thanks so much - led me to Karunesh too, thank you for that as well. Excellent production - loved all the little extras (the men loading the coal, etc).
So wonderful I had to watch it again! Thanks so much...wish your other videos were longer *sigh.
I also loved this video. I'd rather be here with this teaming life than in big cold big cities and skyscrapers
Bob, that´s true ... but we have to take it as it comes. We are currently planning another tour to India for February 2021 - let´s see how things develop!
1000 likes for this video, how can someone dislike it, awesome video
50 dislikes, makes you wonder why some even bother breathing.
Reminds me of the old poem we learnt at school about the train, I think I can, I know I can, I think I can, etc etc I also think it was on a record but absolutely beautiful everything, that's why we brits didn't want to let go but it wasn't ours it belonged to the Indians but at least we left the railways
Excellent video my friend. Big like 👍 greetings from Vietnam ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Wonderful photography!
We, rich and poor alike, don't deserve this planet. We walk over trash, drop trash on the ground. No one says, "Hey, let's clean up our town and make it beautiful, a place we can be proud to show off."
I was thinking the same - the shot on the flat ground where the scooter comes from the right. All kinds of large colored trash - easy to pick up if someone cared!
Wow great vid and wonderful scenery. How those little locos have the power to work those gradients is beyond me. Love the backing music as well.
That´s true, you sometimes wonder how only 2 axles can pull such a load!
My favorite Hill Station the Beautiful Darjeeling, I traveled six years back and hope to be there in near future to joy again toy train . Thanks for such a nice vedio 🙏
Wow, that's a great video. I will always cheer for you in Korea I'm looking forward to a great video. Have a nice day.
Tremendo video.
Also... really nice production. Good work.
Excellent video! Kudos.
I remember traveling in this train with my parents in the eighties..not much as changed ..Humbling and life is simple in those mountains.
yes, some changes are very visible, other things have not changed at all.
Great documentary! How earnestly you have presented the sentiment on Steam Locos of Darjeeling Himalayan Railways. Hats off to you.
IS VERY VERY VERY GOOD VIDEO.RESPECT FROM GREECE
Wunderbar !!!! ======== Superb video !!!!
When the old locomotives, built by the British, could no longer be repaired, the railway thought about buying diesel electrics to entirely replace the steam locomotives. However, they decided that the steam locomotives were still needed at the higher elevations, so they contracted with a company in Switzerland to build new steam locomotives for them Those locomotives are now 30 or 40 years old and likely to keep running for another 100 years.
I would have the steam loco,s in this video were older than that, labour is cheap there for repairs and keeping them running.
Amazing❤️ I m nostalgic... oh ! Darjeeling ..
Love the sharp exhaust and the fact that they have some freight work!
Rob, the freight is paid by us... we organized a photo charter over the entire length of the line. Normally there is no freight at all.
@@tanagotv2640 Thanks for the info. Perhaps one day it will return.

Amazing,journey,in this beautiful world.
Lena Rozario beautiful trains
Better go see the eye doctor.
thangquocnguyenmdp I agree the only thing that is beautiful is the bootleg train
The beautiful garbage, shit and piss ridden world you mean? Indians in any of that countries villages, towns or cities, have no concept of managing their onw infrastructure that doesn't include wallowing in their own shit and refuse.
Definitely an adventure every trip
This is awesome!
Magical view ..Love it
Excellent video and no constant background music to ruin anything.
Thank you Dr, Banner!
@@GatoVader My pleasure,thanks Lou :)
So quaint and those two guys sitting on top of the engine are they breaking the coal? really??? that's really funny. Thanks for putting together this video...appreciate your efforts 👍
Great accompanying music, suiting the peace and grace of the steam loco and its abode..

Welch ein Erlebnis!
If younger I would love to take this trip. It would be a memory of a lifetime.
Lynn, you are never too old for a trip of a lifetime!
@@tanagotv2640 In my twenties I went to Japan, later on visited Taiwan and in my sixties I made a trip to Thailand but now at 80 and with a heart issue I would never dare go anywhere far from a hospital. I will travel locally during my remaining years.
👌👌BEAUTIFUL VIDEO RECORDING
Truly epic and wonderful
Beautiful video, went straight in my favourites list.
Also a lot of detail for my model railway featuring the DHR, in one shot even the underside of the freight cars can be seen!, which are currently on my work bench in model form.
Very nice sphere impression !
Bescheidenheit ist schön, es ist einfach so.
Best documentary about technology of DHR I have ever seen. But skip at Batasia loop unfortunately missing. Very nice Very nice.
Thank you for your positive comment!

DANKE HERZLICHE !!!!!!!!!
A great video to discover a piece of India and its out of time serenity
Marco, yes, it is a time laps sometimes.
Fantastic !
Worlds one of the most beautiful places
I was just thinking that the track looked as if it could do with some maintenance when the video cut to footage of a derailment.
I can't believe how close this train is to everything. Even a dog just leisurely crossed in front of it. And no one even blinked.
"Iron Sherpa" loved it, amazed how they handle the switchbacks.
