Indeed this song is Dimash’s original. The lyrics is an old poem from an old respected Chinese Poet.Dimash has chosen this piece to convert into a song.
Thanks for giving us an explanation to understand the pattern of the lyrics.

    ...
Few things soothe my soul more than listening to this Kazakh boy sing. This is the musicalization of an old Chinese poem that talks about friendship and its significance beyond any circumstance because the bonds of true love do not respond to the logic of space-time. #DimashQudaibergen shows that the possibilities of beauty are limitless. @ kudaibergenov.dimash not only sings, but interprets and creates worlds in a creative process of exquisite good taste, technical mastery to the point that he masters his diaphragm like those who do Taichi, and creating a well-defined semantic universe in each sign of himself. same that unfolds on stage. A jewel. A strange gem. A sublime artist. This work, from the poem Dreams Shared Across Thousands of Miles, was chosen by Dimash to be sung. It belongs to the time of the ancient Thang Dynasty and was written by Zhang Julin as a farewell to a dear friend, which saddens him, but finally in his reflection he writes these lines: as long as we know each other, even if we are far away, we will feel like neighbors, at same as close. In my opinion, it is not only Dimash's talent and technical ability that achieve the excellence of this work (as in so many others), but the great qualitative leap in his performance is given by the extraordinary spiritual maturity of this young Kazakh that manages to capture, live and transmit the depth of each concept that this poem contains. Dimash Kudaibergen knows how to continue reading the soul of the poem and the poet, beyond the words of poetry, and from there he amplifies the speech translated into music and verbal and non-verbal signs extended from all that he himself is, from his skin inward, and from its depths towards the stage. It is for this reason that Dimash's song sometimes tears us apart, amazes us and completely envelops us. Seeing and hearing Dimash is a sensory journey. This is not just a song. This is a piece of art.

Dimash performed a poem (adapted to song) by the Chinese poet Chan Julin, (678-740) who lived during the Tang Dynasty. The program is called Classic Wings, in which interpreters choose a poem to which they musicalise classical literature through music as a way, Dimash integrated dombra into the musical composition. a work of art its interpretation, sublime. I saw a video from the show where this song was performed, during this show Dimash answers to some questions. The answers were long frases and this means he curently speaks chinese (mandarin) no one tralslated for him the questions or the answers ! May be his pronunciation was not perfect, but was perfectly understandeble for the audience ! I like that ! I like that Dimash continues to learn not only music but new languages ! This is the only right way to approache the chinese culture !

I would say being invited to perform on Singer was a master stroke in terms of his career! I think it's smart that he focusses a lot of his time in China, that market is huge. It's also fortunate that Kazakhstan is literally next door!
It will be much harder to start (and more importantly sustain) a career in say the US. From what I understand of Dimash, he's a bit of a homebody, and to succeed in the US, you literally have to live there and promote yourself continuously!

This is perfect and how it should be to sing a song that is based on 1000 years old poem from Tang Dynasty,. The song is about friends parting ways but still there is hope to meet again in the future. “Even we are separated by 1000 miles, our hearts are united by one dream.” if Listening to this transporting me to another world, this time it's an ancient China, willow trees along the hill, wind blowing on the riverside, orange tinted sky in one tranquil evening with a hint of both sadness and hopeful.

MaxTiube you are welcome, I am a painter so his singing is always automatically visualized into my mind. BTW, at this “Classical Wings" Everlasting Show, Mr Kang Zhen, Professor of College of Art, Beijing University, said that “Great men have big ambitions, they set their goals on the world. No matter where they go, the distance between these great men, between these aspiring people are very close to each other. It’s just like you came to China from faraway Kazakhstan, you sing the folk songs of Kazakhstan and also the songs from China, you are just like the great men in Cao Zhi's poem~ Your ambition/goal is based in Kazakhstan but you also set your eyes on China and even the whole world. This is the significance of us standing on this stage of today.”

I saw your video link posted in a Dimash fan club with a comment about how you said Dimash made you appreciate traditional musical instruments and was curious to see why.
I am attracted to music more because of the sounds (which is why I go for Kitaro, Pentatonix etc) rather than the singing, if that makes any sense to you. One tone/sound coming up after another... the speed, the beat, the pairing of sounds... and this is one reason I find myself so mesmerised by Dimash. He sounds to me like a living orchestra of instruments... in glorious sync

Dear Max, it is always a pleasure to listen to your comments, and to learn about unfamiliar for me culture and customs. Beside your comments I try to "read" from your non-verbal reaction/expression and I guess you enjoyed Dimash's singing even more because he sings in your language and apparently not butchering it. Thank to the subtitles I noticed how beautiful are the lyrics, but even without knowing the words Dimash's sublime performance would make me happy to listen to the song a thousand times.

BRAZIL - Dimash said that he and his team chose this poem by Zhan jiuling, and on top of the poem they created the music and Dimash added the sound of Dombra, very well played by the musician on stage, giving a traditional Chinese touch. I always liked Traditional Chinese music. Japanese, and Dimash's performance is superb. It gives us that feeling of seeing images of Ancient Medieval China passing before our eyes, to the soft sound of his voice. Magnifico, I wish Dimash to do more Chinese music, because after Kazakh, I like to hear Dimash sing in the Mandarin language.

Your expression when you listened to this song was, I don't know if there is even a word for it, tender, loving awe? I haven't seen that expression on your face before. It was very touching. I'm always curious about the people who react to Dimash and I have often thought about your English, which is so advanced and perfect but has a subtle Asian sound. I never could figure it out until now. Your pronunciation is perfect but you speak English with a slight and fascinating Chinese lilt (which I love). Thank you so much for your insightful and educational analysis.

Hello. From Brazil. I had already watched the program video. The lyrics are a farewell poem by Zhang Jiulin to his good friend. In the arrangements for this performance, Dimash included Dombra and was made special. Dimash was perfect. What a wonderful, sweet, smooth interpretation, with contained highs. Exciting his determination to learn the correct pronunciation of words to convey the message of the song. The concern was that anyone who heard could understand what he was saying. I think nobody better than you to analyze if it was good is not it? kk And it was important to hear your analysis. I even loved your observation about him singing repeated stanzas, however with a different tone of voice. It's Dimash's magic. I just love to know your impression of the song's interpretation and message. And I agree with you, when you say that it is not always necessary to achieve a strong tone of vocal notes. That song was perfect. The judges praised the fact that he sang a song in Chinese and congratulated him on his performance. And I believe that the audience and the other Chinese who watched the program on TV or on video also approved. I loved it so much.
I saw an interesting curiosity in a Facebook post:
The illustration on Dimash's shirt is called 'That Old Dragon', part of a series of drawings in a book called The Faerie Queene.
(We can't see the dragon because he has a shirt on, but I saw it on a Facebook post and it really is a very beautiful drawing. I saved the photos, if you want to see it I can send it, just tell me where)
In the book, there is an epic poem in English by Edmund Spenser.
The excerpt from the poem at the bottom of the shirt says:
"The knight with that old dragon fights incessantly for two days. On the third, he knocks him down and wins. The most glorious victory."

Thank you so much for your review and analysis! I love your insight and point of view. I absolutely felt the same as you that he performed the song with a tone of tender sadness, yet there was a sense that just as spring would come, so too would the friends meet again. He was able to portray that hope. And, i actually find that astonishing. To sing a song with these two subtle emotions of missing a friend but with a hope toward seeing them again soon is very hard to do. I think thats why Dimash sang this song in such a delicate way. Everything was very controlled. He eased into and out of nearly every note making everything seamless and smooth. He had plenty of dynamics in the song but it was all more nuanced and on a smaller scale. I think he needed to approach the song this way in order to convey these more subtle emotions.
I've seen him do another song similarly. He did a song called "We are One" for the Covid 19 outbreak and released it a couple of months ago. In that song, he surprised me on the very first opening phrase. He sang with such calm, warmth, and comfort it took me by surprise. I don't think I'd ever heard anyone do that in a song before. It was like he was wrapping me in a warm blanket. Just thinking about it now make tears come to my eyes. I cried like crazy the first several times I watched it and couldn't understand why, because it was not a sad song. It was only hopeful and comforting. It was his voice. It was the emotion he was singing with. It was because it was so unexpected. It was because it was exactly what was needed.
So, my point for bringing that up is that he has found the ability to convey more than just longing or anger or desperation or passion which are the more common emotions for songs. Don't get me wrong, he's is the best at conveying what ever emotion he sings with.
This getting too long but let me add one more thing. Dimash is a very honest and straight forward person. He often tells the truth even when most people would hide it. It's not that he doesn't have secrets but I just mean who you see is who he is. He has no reservations about exposing his heart to people. I have a theory that this is the reason Dimash is able to so easily convey emotions in his singing. I think he first has to have the intuitive ability to feel and understand the emotion of a song in his heart, but then, because he is such an open person naturally, he is able to honestly transfer that emotion to us. Thanks again! I enjoyed your review very much!

You are so correct, I hear him sing in many languages and every time I understand him completely but I don't understand the language. He is astonishing and this song is the most beautiful song that he has sung so far. The instrument being played is a Kazakh trsditional instrument called a Dombra, its sacred to all Kazakhs, but there are a few places in China that have Dombra, it was played in a very Chinese style here and it shows how versatile a two stringed instrument can be. A very beautiful delicate sound in this performance 💖

    Hi Max,
Thanks again for your reaction to Dimash. I saw this performance, extended, with him being introduced and questioned by the judges, in Mandarin. Unfortunately, there was no English translation. I would have greatly appreciated your translation and impressions. This was on
    CCTV.
I was wondering if you would do a reaction to Swan Goose with Dimash and Tengri?
I appreciated your comment about traditional Chinese instruments becoming more interesting to you since Dimash has had them
performed in his songs. I too became interested in both Chinese and Kazakh traditional instruments after seeing Dimash.
I come from an Irish/Scottish heritage and almost everyone in my mother’s family (she was one of 18 children),plays an instrument, some are traditional like the Bodhran, an Irish drum, or the Oeillan
Pipes, an Irish bagpipe, so pride in family background is familiar to me.
Thanks once again and you and yours keep safe and well.

With him we learn to love and respect other peoples, cultures, without barriers, that's what he really wants. Your genuine and pro analysis completes it too. Dimash’s strength is that he manages to combine different cultures and music with mixing his unique style and the end product is art. Even if we don’t understand the language he’s singing it’s the story behind, the emotions and his voice let us believe what he’s singing. It makes us curious and want to listen more.
