How To Easily Remove Chalk Paint From Furniture, Using Bio Strip

  • In this video, I am sharing how to easily remove chalk paint from furniture. I will be using a product called bio strip to easily lift off the chalk paint.
While chalk paint has been popular for painting furniture, it can be hard to remove. When removing chalk paint, it can clog your sander and cause a lot of dust. This is why I used a stripping product.
It took me roughly two hours to remove the paint, but the stripper did all of the hard work.
I allowed the stripper 30 mins to work and then I scraped off the residue. I used a steel wool sponge to scrub off the remaining bio strip.
Bare wood furniture has made a revival, with Cottagecore and boho interior styles becoming popular.
So, if you are rescuing a piece of furniture, I hope you find this how-to easily remove chalk paint video helpful.
Autentico Bio-strip is a biodegradable paint stripper that can remove wax, varnish and paint residue from various surfaces. It also can be used for cleaning hardened paint on paintbrushes.
    autenticopaint...
I used Rustins Danish oil on my finished piece.

I really appreciate quality timber furniture in Oak, Cedar, Mahogany and Baltic Pine. Chalk paint also adds a touch of shabby chic on French Provincial style furniture. The chest of drawers looked beautiful n the chalk paint and beautiful rose decoupage. Now stripped back to the original timber, the chest of drawers remain well suited to your cottage themed bedroom.

I have used some chalk paint on some pieces, but discovered not all chalk paints are equal. I have been very pleased with Annie Sloan chalk paint and soft wax, but when I put a polyurethane over the paint it did yellow (thank goodness it was a small piece). I like wooden antique pieces and I mix woods and some painted pieces in the same room and I don’t go too matchy matchy, but change it up. I like furniture that is well maintained whatever style it is, painted or wood. I cringe when I see lovely big old pieces of true antique furniture in antique stores that have been painted: those that wanted it can’t afford it, and people that could afford it don’t want it and think it had been tarted up. I think your pieces are beautifully executed, and although some aren’t necessarily my style, I appreciate them and think they make your home lovely. I’ve bought some danish oil (thinking to redo a cherry table) but haven’t tried it out and was happy to see you using it.

Love love love seeing someone uncover the wood instead of covering it up 💖 some pieces need to be painted especially if they’re not all that old and not made out of very high quality materials or can’t be saved any other way and I enjoy painting pieces that need it, that being said I generally prefer wood (lol) I’d say my home is 90% wood furniture & maybe 10% painted pieces. The wood tone is very grounding for your room, it does help balance and ground all the pretty light airiness. We just started the project of stripping our kitchen cabinets that had been painted in the 90s by my great aunt. Our house was built in 65 and the wood cabinets are so beautiful underneath that paint but after stripping the first 2 doors I got an uh oh feeling about how big a job it may be, fun times lol.

Agree too abt the chalk paints also they just don't have the same variery of tones or shades and can look muddy if you go for any greys or greige colours. Just love your sense of humor, you are just so adorable. I personally hate to strip paint; you make it look so easy. I would never do any project without something underneath, I'm just not as trusting of myself and you never seem to have any spills even with cats...
That piece or a one like it would fit in your new bathroom for storage, towels & products and be able to keep the pedestal sink, just sayin' . 😺

Wood adds warmth and depth 🤣, paint adds interest for me, I like both! Can I just say, you made that stripping look easy, and not emptying all your drawers cracked me up, I would have covered most of my clothes with the stripper 😋. This subject just asks for innuendo 😉

Great advice Catherine. I’m both too. But I’ve a wood piece in my bedroom that I have been thinking of painting for a while now. It’s quite old so hesitant about putting paint on it. I’m glad you warned us all off the chalk paint though coz I was thinking of it. Keep up the good work. Love watching your videos. Binge watching your travel at the moment. Brilliant. I’ve a list now if we ever get out of our county never mind the country. But as soon as we are out of lockdown I’m booking Galway. Loved it. ❤️

I really appreciate learning all this information. I have resisted chalk paint because I was concerned about how it would hold up. I like a mixture of painted and wood. I painted the top of my kitchen table a cream color and left the legs and chairs stained. It's solid maple, so I wanted to see the wood!

Hi Catherine love your video's im addicted you make such a lovely job of all your make overs ,The last piece of wood furniture I done was a half moon shaped kind of table item I got out of charity shop for my hall .I usually strip the varnish off bring it back to natural ( emmm Wood ) then mix instant coffee(3 heaped teaspoons) hot water leave to cool then apply to the furniture with old pieces of rags or any kind of material, this is a lovely idea for a wood stain I usually give a couple of coats then when dry coat with a clear satin varnish then hay presto that's it finished looks amazing .I got this tip of Rosie Hemshaws blogs when finished it gives a old piece of furniture that cost about £4 I think a new lease of life . How are you getting on with your en suite? Thats my next project take care looking forward to your next video x
