The original Buddhist sacred works and mantras were composed in Pali, the language that Buddha spoke and taught in. Then Buddhism spread through all India and the Pali Cannon of teachings was translated into the Sanskrit language, and it was used to write all the new mantras and Tantras that were developed, and also transmitted from the Buddhas and other spirit beings to humans. So the mantras and teachings first entered Tibet from India in their Sanskrit form, but then were translated into Tibetan and practiced in Tibetan for a thousand or so years and do both forms are good and empowered fully. So most teachers will tell you you can choose the form of the mantra you like best and feels right for you.

HH 41 when explaining this, said to say " vajra" rather than "benza" if it is easy for you to do so. It is hard for Tibetans to say " vajra".
