- Spending some time organizing and depotting my Milani Bella Eyeshadows. P.S. Make sure that the glue on the magnet is strong. Otherwise I would recommend to use hot glue to ensure they stay on.

I just want to say that for anyone thinking of doing this, it is a good idea to do so in a well ventilated area as melting plastics can give off dangerous fumes.
***** It's pretty dangerous if you're actually melting the plastic to the point it's bubbling. I was able to depot using a flat iron on low heat, and not have any fumes.
Ann Kilzer That's good. Many people have accidentally melted the plastic which results in fumes, so it's best to do this in a well ventilated area just in case.

I feel like all this effort was not really worth it, especially since they are loose bricks of shadow and not in a metal pan. Even after they're in a palette it seems like it would be very messy, and as shadows get used they will crack/crumble because they don't have a container and all the shadow dust is going to get all over the other shades. I'm usually all for depotting but I feel like these just weren't meant to be in a palette, and will just cause more work/mess down the road.
That happened to most of mine. I mean, it's suuuuper convenient to have them all in one palette and not have to dig through a drawer of singles to find three or four shades, but it's almost not worth it because of how messy the palette gets, and the fact they dry out and crack. Good thing is they're fairly cheap, so I can just repurchase all the shades I need. But I definitely wouldn't do this again with these shadows.
I feel like popping off the back and then popping off the top and putting a magnet on the back of the container and putting the whole container into the Z pallette would be a better idea. It looks like it would fit after the bulkiness of the top was popped off and since after you pop the bottom off it's sorta recessed so the magnet won't add any bulk either.

Instead of using a black Sharpie, you could use a silver or gold color to see the writing on the magnet better. You could also use a label maker if you have one and stick a label on the back of the magnet. Great video, I'll be doing this to mine soon!
use a curling rod and place it on the label for a few seconds, then careful slide it off while warm. Then transfer to the bottom of the shadow

If you want to get the stickers off you can just heat them up with your straightener and a piece of parchment paper and they will peel right off!

Have you tried depotting the Milani baked blushes? I want to depot mine but I'm not sure if they'll fit in that Mac pallet.
The thing that I like about these eye shadows is that they are singles and a decent size. Hard to get the brush in/ a good payoff from eyeshadow palettes and the color squares are so small/ close together. For that reason I wouldn't try this myself, but interesting idea.

you can also use a cheap embossing heat gun if you have one. easier to control the burn level
Since starting to create on CZcams, I have accumulated SOOOOO much eyeshadow and these are some of my favs. I travel - I'm doing this! Sure they can break, but if we don't use them - they will just sit in a drawer forever -drying out and possibly cracking anyhow! Thanks for sharing. ;) Love in 2017!
If you warm up the plastic with the label sticker.... you can lift off the label and then stick it on your depotted product. Lay the plastic piece (label facing up) on a flat iron... or use a lighter. You really just need less than 30 seconds. Once warm, the label comes off easily.
I think you should of glued the back part you popped off to the shadow and just put the magnet on the back of it over the barcode. That way you can have the names on it, nicer than a sharpie. Jus sayin...

Bonita Habibti well, she was talking while burning the plastic so she was breathing in the fumes. But also she's old enough to know what she's doing. So I don't get why people are bothered about her being careful or not..

I love depotting eyeshadows, but the one time I did try to depot a purple baked eyeshadow it crumbled and I noticed orangy powder everywhere, now I know it was clay! This video was very helpful, thank you so much. I like Milani's packaging but I have a few other baked products from other brands that have less sleek packaging so I'll definitely be depotting those :)

Baked shadows are more crumbly and break easier. I wouldn't bother to depot them. Just use them in the package I say. This is toxic. These shadows aren't baked. Applying heat like that could compromise the product and one's health. Pointless.

Did you stick down a magnetic sheet into the Mac palette beforehand or did eye shadows stick to the palette simply with the magnetic strip you stuck to the individual shadows?
I put magnets on the pans themselves since the mac palettes have a metal surface.

It certainly will since it's the same size as the single palette just double sided.

This is awesome. I never would have thought of depotting shadows and putting them into a palette. I have a question though, does heating the shadows change the consistency of the at all?
Oh no it won't change them. However with some shadows if you are depotting them with heat or even the rubbing alcohol way you have to be careful not to but too much heat because they may crack.

Did you ever try to use blow dryer on high heat to soften the sticky tacky glue?
I had not just because my dryer does not get as hot.
Heat the sticker like you do to the bottom of the eye shadow for a few seconds it releases the sticker just Dont keep heat on the sticker too long or it will burn

not Dollar tree...wow. Stupid answer. Walmart sells it.
Actually, At one point they were at the dollar tree. I picked up a few myself. Many of the drug store makeup that becomes discontinued will get sent back as a call in and then distributed to the dollar tree. I even found a CVS clearance sticker on the bottom of a bottle of nail polish that was in a sealed package.

I really hate this because the heat changes the way the shadows work, feel etc and how long they last. Oxidation etc
This is incredibly untrue . Oxidation is a chemical reaction that cant be undone after exposure to oxygen.
You're confusing the word oxide (pigments) with oxidation. Heating your eyeshadows, most of which which have undergone a baking process of their own, does not change the eyeshadow unless there is foil or PU (acrylics, plastics) inside your makeup. At which case they shouldn't be on your eyes with the exception of cosmetic grade foils.
I hate how this misconception spread like wildfire after non educated makeup lovers pulled an anti vaxxer ruse. (Not saying you're non educated, I meant the ones who originally started this controversy without proper implication that only some makeup shouldn't be melted.

Burning plastic can give off bad fumes that you shouldn’t breathe in so you should either be in a well ventilated room, hold your breath, or find a different way to depot it

+Brittney Hensley These do not dry out, the word gel is misleading to people. The "gel" was really only used during the manufacturing process but once you buy then they really are just regular powder shadows.

Those are not meant to be depotted. After they're out, it'll be more work and mess than when you were taking them out. It'll all be all over the pallets, and will and be stuck together.
I would suggest getting the thin permanent marker to write the name on each one. Looks like she's having a hard time with that big one, looks hard to read..

Sweetie please keep in mind that you're breathing in a huge amount of toxins ... NOT A GOOD IDEA .. the toxins will build up and make your body sick .
