If the blood can't be used on it's own you can coat a fabric in it and let it dry to use that. The fabric needs to be color that won't alter the color of the blood. If you can't use that paper could work as well. This is if you want to do it. Just tell them to do this an let it completely dry before sending it.

Even so, particulates could get anywhere and youd need PPE, gloves, a mask worn properly and eye coverage that seals to your face. Maybe it would work if you mixed the blood in resin and has little bits like those crystals and would be less of a hazard? Im not sure, I'd honestly say you'd need to do research to see at what point is the blood not a biohazard. And since blood goes through a lot of different chemical reactions in the body, and out, as it dries, reacts to different materials... It might not turn out as expected, it typically turns brown over time and it would be extremely surprising if it kept a red color.

Cuts being exposed to blood is only a risk of infection if the blood is infected with something and a lot do the major infections we worry about, like HIV, can’t live outside of the body. Wearing gloves would provide adequate protection.
Blood that has been dehydrated for several days is pretty inhospitable to bacteria and viruses. Even HIV can only live a few minutes on its own outside a human. If it's dehydrated fully and has spent a few days in the mail, still dry and not at human body temps, is basically impossible to catch anything from it even if you inject it straight into yourself let alone barely getting some of it on your paper cut. Just wear gloves and a face mask and you'll be fine.

I would do it. There’s another jeweler who does blood jewelry and he wears gloves and makes sure to not get the blood in contact with any open wound. You never know if someone has a blood carried disease. If you do it, just take precautions, but it’s a super cool idea and I hope to get one made some day
Yeah, that’s the main thing- you need to be absolutely sure you are 100% sterilizing everything after making something if you use blood for the same reason. It can be a liability issue otherwise, so if oc decides to ever go down this path, they just need to remember that every possible precaution needs to be taken!

Absolutely no way for it to be hygienic. The only way would be if they constructed a hermetically sealed box, with sealed glove attachments to work from. Dry blood is just as pathogenic as wet. The sanding process would catapult dry blood dust all over the studio. Another option would be to make custom liquid vials, that could be inlayed within the bevel without contact. Maybe something flexible, similar to those freeze pop tubes? lol

I think that if you clarify in detail how to dry the blood out and ship it so that you dont get mailed a bloody tissue or a vial of blood (yummy 🤮), you could probably make it work. Cuts being exposed to blood is only a risk of infection if the blood is infected with something and a lot do the major infections we worry about, like HIV, can’t live outside of the body. Wearing gloves would provide adequate protection.

Blood that has been dehydrated for several days is pretty inhospitable to bacteria and viruses. Even HIV can only live a few minutes on its own outside a human. If it's dehydrated fully and has spent a few days in the mail, still dry and not at human body temps, is basically impossible to catch anything from it even if you inject it straight into yourself let alone barely getting some of it on your paper cut.
Just wear gloves and a face mask and you'll be fine.

I think it would be a cold idea, I know that if you leave blood out for awhile it will dry up. Maybe make it the sender’s responsibility to send the blood already dry and take extra precautions when handling it

I would do it. There’s another jeweler who does blood jewelry and he wears gloves and makes sure to not get the blood in contact with any open wound. You never know if someone has a blood carried disease. If you do it, just take precautions, but it’s a super cool idea and I hope to get one made some day

Yeah, that’s the main thing- you need to be absolutely sure you are 100% sterilizing everything after making something if you use blood for the same reason. It can be a liability issue otherwise, so if oc decides to ever go down this path, they just need to remember that every possible precaution needs to be taken!

Absolutely no way for it to be hygienic. The only way would be if they constructed a hermetically sealed box, with sealed glove attachments to work from. Dry blood is just as pathogenic as wet. The sanding process would catapult dry blood dust all over the studio.
Another option would be to make custom liquid vials, that could be inlayed within the bevel without contact. Maybe something flexible, similar to those freeze pop tubes? lol

I think that if you clarify in detail how to dry the blood out and ship it so that you dont get mailed a bloody tissue or a vial of blood (yummy 🤮), you could probably make it work.
I would make sure to wear gloves during the whole process as blood borne pathogens are a thing that people tend to forget about so gloves and maybe a mask since you want *dust* in case you breathe in some lovely blood dust.
Once it's sealed under the resin or whatever you use to make the rings, it would be safe at that point. It would be weird, but safe
