Roland JD-990 & Korg Wavestation SR

- Roland JD-990 and Korg Wavestation are two great digital synthesizers from the early 1990s.
This is a demo of some of my favorite evolving pad presets on these synthesizers. Only factory presets were used. I added a little bit of reverb on a send in the DAW to glue things together.
The original Wavestation was released in 1990 (the SR model is from 1992) and the JD-990 was released in 1993 (the JD-990 is based on the JD-800, which came out in 1991).
The Roland JD-series and the Wavestation are considered by some to be the best digital "pad machines" ever made and they are still used by many artists and film composers.

JD-990 patches here won! WS excells in great choir/voxy/breathy pads and wavesquences, JD wins for epic analog string & analog in general emulation and soundtrack types as well.
Got to try put my JD+WS EX+D50+k5000s back to back one day ;)

But there is one pad type sound which remains unique unto itself. From the Roland D-50... “Fantasia!” That “is” the signature Roland sound, and I’m mainly a Korg guy!😊
Ah yes, definitely so, and the JD-990 also comes with its own evolution of that legendary patch ("Fantasia 990").
Thanks for this. Had been wanting a JD990 but just won an SR. Think I prefer how it sounds anyways after hearing this.
Nice! The SR is an incredibly inspiring box: you just turn it on, dial in presets and ideas will come out. I hope you enjoy it.

nowadays they don't do such brilliant things anymore, they feed us with pseudo sounds that don't even reach the heels of modules that were made 20 or more years ago
I AGREE! that’s why I’m never buying a new synth again! Just got a WS EX and it’s no turning back
I did loose the ram patches on My SR... How can i get ?
