  • Bula vinaka and thank you for joining us online as we livestream the Funeral Service for the late Ratu Keni Pearce Vuiyasawa this afternoon, Tuesday, 29 March 2022.
    “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38
    The livestream will begin at the Suva Mortuary and the cortège will depart from the hospital to Bau Island today.
    He will spend his final night at Vatanitawake before he is laid to rest on Wednesday at the Sau Tabu.
    Ratu Keni was born at CWM Hospital, Suva on 30th August, 1949 and passed on to glory on Thursday, 17th March 2022 at the age of 72 years old.
    He was born into the chiefly household of Naisogolaca of Bau, Tailevu to parents Ratu Edward Tuivanuavou Tungi Cakobau and Adi Vasemaca Tuiburelevu.
    He belonged to the Mataqali Tuikaba in the Yavusa Kubuna with maternal links to the Mataqali Vusaradave also in the Yavusa Kubuna, Bau.
    Ratu Keni was the youngest of five siblings and his brothers were Ratu Viliame Dreunimisimisi (deceased), Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and Ratu Cokanauto Tu’uakitau.
    His father Ratu Sir Edward was born on December, 1908 to King George Tupou II of Tonga and Adi Litia Cakobau, the granddaughter of Ratu Seru Epenisa Cakobau, the first King of Fiji.
    Ratu Sir Edward was the half-brother of Queen Salote Tupou III of Tonga.
    Ratu Keni is survived by his son Ratu Timoci Gilbert Tu’uakitau Tavanavanua in Sydney, Australia, daughter in law Nina Frances Ratukalou and grandchildren; Ratu Jone Waqalevu, Ratu Rusiate Kaibau, Ratu Keni Vuiyasawa and Adi Litia Tavanavanua.
    His great grandchildren are Sapphire Waqalevu and Ratu Epeli Waqalevu.
    The late Ratu Keni attended Levuka Public School and Ratu Kadavulevu School.
    He was a soldier by profession and enlisted on 30th February, 1967 as 20971 Ex-Second Lieutenant.
    In 1968, he was attached to the Royal New Zealand Army, RF Depot at Waiouru, NZ.
    He was posted to the 2FIR Territorial Force after completing the Basic Recruit Course and enlisted in the Regulate Force on 8th October, 1980.
    He was also posted to the Fiji Infantry Regiment Department as a Platoon Sergeant.
    On 1st July, 1987 he was granted at Territorial Commission Regular Force and on 31st October, 1988 at his own request and for personal reasons he was posted to the Reserve/Territorial Force until his retirement on 30th August, 2004.
    The late Retired Second Lieutenant Keni Pearce Vuiyasawa also served overseas for the 1FIR (UNIFIL) in Lebanon from December 1980-December 1981 and June 1984 to June 1986.
    He received a UNIFIL Peacekeeping medal for his service.
