1:04 is definitely THE most nonchalant back flip I have ever seen in my life. She is amazing. I hope she stays with gymnastics as long as she can because you can just tell she loves it. If she continues to love it that much. I hope so much that she will keep with it through at least the next Olympics for her sake and for all of her fans. However, her loyal fans such as myself will continue to follow her regardless of her decision.
These are REALLY GOOD performances in "Frosted Pink - with A Twist." Kind of "your compulsory gymnastics is on hiatus: now use those same skills on what you WANT to do musically, but with the same class and focus and grace and showmanship." Thank you VERY much for sharing these with us! These young LADIES have a bright future, as long as they STAY as focused and as classy and as well-grounded as they are now and BUILD on those positive attributes.
I know. I've heard that from WAY too many people. She has put on "some" (and I do mean very slightly) weight, but like you said, Perfectly normal. She is a 17 year old girl, and she doesn't even weigh 100 pounds. She has so much muscle that using weight as a measurement of being "fat" is beyond stupid. Shawn Johnson is one of THE BEST female athletes in the world. I don't see any of you doing what she does. Just look how effortlessly she does that back flip at 1:04 ... now that's athleticism.
She said she got to fly across the arena- maybe she'll do a Cathy Rigby and become Peter Pan! LOL she probably won't, but she's really cute and this was a great cause.
@shannonphipps it's called Aerials....it's a great workout. I did a couple of sessions with my gf and her friends let me tell you, you have to be in tip top shape
Sadly there is a chance that 2012 won't be happening for her, considering she will be 20 and in college. I know it's over summer and all, but by that time, she has even said that she might not be doing gymnastics, but something else instead. And even age 20 is at the limit for most female gymnasts sadly enough...
You call that fat?! Are you serious? This girl has worked her WHOLE life for the Olympics. Guess what? She took first AND second. And now that she is finished with the Olympics, she CAN eat Eating is normal And ohmygosh! Its healthy! So what if they gain 1 pound or 10?! Its her decision what she wants to do. And if you are calling 115 pounds HEAVY then I would just LOVE to know what u weigh! NEWS FLASH: Shawn weighs less than 115 pounds. Even WITH the new weight she has seemed to have put on

when u say.."being overweight is simply not healthy" and "looks like she gained weight" means that u think she is fat or at an unhealthy weight .She is also probably starting puberty, causing her 2 also gain some weight & she was training A LOT be4 the olympics & when u all of a sudden stop...u will gain a little weight! She's perfectly healthy she is dancing daily & training a little here and there. And calm down...u should kno from posting that type of comment u wuld get a response!
This lady and her precise gymnastic and graceful moves makes her so beautiful that she only inspires and makes me want to ask her to marry me, make love and have beautiful babies. . .

My mom and people at school have said that she has gained weight, but I said what I said in my comment. Watching this 15 years later which I did not see then shows how great she was. And a great dancer also .
