The Canon RF 85mm F2 Macro STM lens is extremely affordable and packs a ton of features not found in other entry-level lenses. But what do the photos look like? Are they any good, and is the lens actually as good as they say?

What lenses or cameras should I try next?
I'd love to have more info about the RF10-20mm 4.0. Maybe this would be something to review?
Get your hands on the EF 200 f/2, such a fun piece of glass
thank you for the review! I was considering that lens for macro photography but also this one seems very interesting (maybe more at this point..) RF 100mm F2.8L Macro IS USM
Not sure if you tried it before, but the 85mm f/1.2 RF would be a cool comparison to this.
Could you do some of the best inexpensive ef and ef-s mount lenses?
I use this lens all the time for weddings, portraits, and even some sports (wrestling). Been really happy with the results.
Doesn’t it struggle with focus am leaning towards it but all
I heard is bad reviews of this lens
@@Thedivinevision.19if you use the focus limiter you'll have much faster focusing. If you leave it set to 'full' then it can struggle. I always leave it in the middle and I'm happy with the focus.
@@philcupper thanks mate
Quick question: What is the plugin you used to check the focus point, and is it available? If you could tell me that would be awesome because it looks really useful
While it’s not perfect it’s one my favorite carry around lenses. It’s light with some reach and as long as I don’t pixel peep the photos come out well
I'm just looking for a 85mm prime. Thanks for this video
Anthony I need your opinion I have a canon R5 with a 50 mm 1.2 and 15-35 2.8 mm lens I was thinking to change one of them with 70-200 mm lens, which one should I give up? Plus I have a Sony A7R4 with 70-200 2.8 G master and 24-70 2.8 Sigma. For my canon lens should I get 70-200?
I wonder what are your thoughts on the 200-800mm
You make great videos!
7:27 the "blurry" photo of your friend.
1. What is the shutter speed and aperture in this photo. Was the shutter speed to long for hand held even with IS turned on. Or was the IS turned of.
2. Did you use a lense hood for the 85 mm to avoid stray light and lens flares and lover contrast in photo.
3. perhaps the sharpness is on the pine tree to the right?
I know this lens in generel is a sharp lens, so I'm a little surpriced about this "blurry" photo.
I like the rest of your video, keep up the good work.
Great lens for a great price. I was thinking about it but ill think ill go with the 1.2
Thanks for the information about the lens. I want to ask what is the difference between brand lenses and third party lenses
There is no third party lenses for the canon RF lens system. Canon just has some cheaper alternatives :) And the difference is just over all quality. They are not bad tho.
Great review. One of my most hated lenses. Have to absolutely agree with all that's said here.
Now I will say. I only used it for 4 hours max. It wouldn't track my fast moving toddler. And the autofocus was also slow going from short to Long distance as mentioned. So I returned it.
Great review as always my dude.
Hey, I loved your comment. In fact, I was wondering if I should buy this lens to take pictures of my fast moving toddler as well. What RF prime do you suggest for it? I already have both 24-105 f/4 and 35 f/1.8 in my kit.
@@MarcusNunes the 100/2.8 macro is the cheapest RF prime with Nano USM. For more versatility there’s the 70-200/4. Both are 2x as expensive as the 85.
@@officialvisaural I thought about the 100 f/2.8, but I wasn't sure about it. I was always more inclined to buy the 85 f/2, since the 85 f/1.2 is too expensive for me.
I think maybe the 70-200 f/4 isn't fast enough for my use, though.
@@MarcusNunes Yeah. I wish Canon just had something like an 85/1.8L - even with or without IS. Nikon is seeing the gap in the market at least - they have their 85/1.8S...
@@officialvisauralyup I want mid price range L primes. F1.4 or 1.8. Its either super cheap quality or high end currently.
more portrait shoot model to this photos for this lens in future
I was a Sony fanboy(I don’t have a camera yet)then i found your channel 🗿! Dude you’re content made me so confuse whether i should consider Sony or Canon (your videos give a different vibe brother) lots of love from India ✨✨✨
Honestly. I'll be the first to say they're all good! Go with the camera that speaks to you the most! 😊
I love the Conon colors, and image quality.
I used this lens when shooting “simulated surfing” in Hawaii last summer. The lens physical quality SUCKED as it always felt like something was loose inside it. HOWEVER, unlike a lot of these comments, my image quality was pretty high up there, I never knew how hated this lens was until now.
Also, I returned it after I got let go from that shoot so I can’t test it… maybe that’s for the better.
Hello Master Anthony:
Please help and give me some advice,
The camera I am currently using is Canon EOS R10,
The kit lens used with it is (RF-S18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM)
My main subject matter is toy photography.
The secondary shooting content is street photography or portrait photos.
Now I want to buy new lenses, after watching your video,
Want to compare between Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM and RF85mm F2 Macro IS STM
After making a choice, I would like to ask you to give me some advice on which lens is more suitable for me? Thank you.
I would say probably just get the 85mm. I think that would help, especially the f2 aperture will make a big difference. 35mm and 50mm is more used in street photography but the 85mm is versatile and will give you a different perspective
@@windstorm894 thanks for your reply🙏
Thank you for the video because I am looking for lenses
I’m not sure why you’re talking about doing macro at f2. That’s not really a thing and when you do that of course you’ll have CA in the image. But, this lens is a budget lens so even closed down a bit you’ll see some. I still like mine though I don’t use it though
Is it even fair to compare it to something 5 times as expensive?
Now pass me my Z Nikon 85 1.8 S lens
sure, catch!
I tried this lens. Wasn't a fan. Images weren't sharp. Especially how I wanted. The AF on it was SLOW. If it lost focus, it took forever to get it back.
Christopher Frost review of this lens says it's one of the sharpest 85mm lenses out there.
You kind of poo-poo this lenses as opposed to others who consider this a real sleeper and a great buy…
Wide constant aperture? It is a prime lens, mate! Of course it's aperture is constant. Piece of advise: if you don't know what are you talking about, don't make lens reviews.
Have you watched any of his other videos or know what he now does for a living? It was a simple mistake.
Piece of advice: don't tell someone not to do something for a small mistake.
Actually it isnt a mistake. Its just a true fact. Beginners may not know, that prime lenses have always constant apertures. But in Fact he just said a (maybe redundant) true fact
So him saying exactly what you said makes him not know what he’s talking about? Make it make sense
Wow thank goodness you know what you’re talking about so you could call him out for saying the same thing. Good on you, here’s a 🍪
Fucking YT AD's killing YT, get a new CEO
Meh its Canon 😉😂 jk
