    Just bought a house with a in ground pool and have no idea what I’m doing. This was a great start to learning how everything functions. I guess my first question among many is when you’re turning the handle on the 3 way valve I’m assuming the handle is the arrow or what I’m wanting to switch to. Just seems like the other way around. Thanks

    I have no backwash bib. Only way to drain pool to lower level in case of lots of rain would be to remove the cap on back of filter… that’ll kill the surrounding grass around the equipment.

    So a better way to prime your hose is to attach it to the vacuum head, put it in the pool and feed your hose into the pool until you get to the end and water actually comes out of the end of the hose in your hand. You can then put the end of the hose in your skimmer or attach to your vacuum and start to clean.

I hired a pool company for green to clean and after 6 visits 90% of the debris is gone..but still a lot of algae piles..do I have to vacuum to waste all of it out before putting the dolphin in for the first time? If you have a sand filter with a Multiport valve you can put that on the closed position eliminating water coming back through the filter from the return lines. If no multiport valve and there's no other valves to turn off you will have to install new valves on both the suction and return side of your pump or cap off your return jets and skimmer with winter plugs while you clean your pump basket

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  Před rokem +2

      Sounds like when you attach your vacuum to skimmer 1 your pump starts sucking off skimmer 2 because it's less resistance without your 30 plus foot vacuum hose on it. The cure is to shut the valve going to it in the pump room or if there is no valve you will have to plug one of your skimmers with a 1 1/2 inch or 2inch plug.

      Thank you! Finally someone with some sense and who gets me. You wont believe how much crap i get from customers and employees like im going to stir up the whole pool. Im simply gently brushing the dirt off the high spots like steps and benches without stirring it up too much. By the time you get your vacuum stuff put together the dirt will settle to the bottom. Im basically trying to just get the dirt to the floor so vacuuming is alot easier.

    Bleeding the filter? How do you know when to stop. You do this every time open open the basket?

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  Před 3 lety +6

      Anytime you have to stop and clean your pump basket or prime your pool pump the air that was in your pump and lines gets pushed into your filter and gets trapped in the top portion. Normally there is a air bleeding valve either on the assembly piece that the pressure gauge is attached to or across from the pressure gauge on the top of the filter. note not all filters have a bleeding valve such as some top mount sand filters where the multi-port valve handle is on the top of the filter and also some of your smaller cartridge filters. I normally bleed the air out of them when i am all finished vacuuming and done opening up my pump. with an air bleeding valve you will open it until the air stops hissing and you get a steady stream of water squirting out.

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  Před 3 lety +7

      If you have a sand filter on your pool you might try vacuuming to waste to bypass the filter and send that junk on the bottom of your pool straight out the backwash line. if you do have a sand filter and need direction check out my other video ( How to vacuum a pool to waste with a sand filter. when I can't tell which line is the skimmer and the main drain coming into the pump I just shut one valve and then go check to see if my skimmer is still pulling water. If it is you just shut the valve to the maindrain or vice versa. The battle of getting the pool clean can seem like an eternity but keep at it and you will tackle it soon enough!

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  Před 3 lety +6

      It will but you will have to empty the pump basket constantly if there's more than a few handfuls of leaves in the pool. A leaf net or a vacuum with a leaf bag works best on big leaf removal jobs.

    Will the sand and dirt at the bottom damage the pump?

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  Před 3 lety +7

      The pump should be ok unless we're talking about alot of sand. If we're talking like 20 pounds or a half a bucket of sand it could start wearing down the impeller. I've only seen that much sand if there was problems with a sand filter. In that situation we netted out about 50 pounds of sand and touched up the rest with the manual vacuum with no effects to the pump.

    • @egysworld
      @egysworld Před 3 lety +4

      If the pool is super dirty and in the process of recirculation the skimmer filled up and lifted such that dirt was going right through even to the pump basket, what do you suggest I do first. I noticed less suction when I turned in the pump so I think there's debris clogging things somewhere. The water is also green with algae

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  Před 3 lety +7

      I would definitely get the pump to run properly first thing to help with debris in the line. Make sure pump basket and skimmer basket are cleaned. Then I would backwash filter or spray off your cartridge filter. Fire up the pump and see if you can get your normal flow back. If not you might have something stuck in the line. If so I have used a shop vac and sucked back through the skimmer or they make a drain clog balloon that screws onto a garden hose and put it in the suction side of the pump housing and forced water back to the skimmer unclogging it. For the algae the answer is as always chlorine. I don't recommend vacuuming the pool until you can see what your vacuuming off the bottom.

      I would first check to make sure the skimmer and pump baskets are clean then I would clean the filter or backwash the sand filter. If the pressure Guage still says zero and the pump and flow of water coming out of the return jet in the pool seem to be flowing good all thats left is changing the pressure Guage out.

    Do I have to get the bigger hose to clean my pool if so why are they selling pool vacuums without it why can I use a regular water hose

    • @Poolelementary
      @Poolelementary  Před rokem +2

      Most of the pool Vacuums attachment hooks to a 1-1/4 inch to a 1-1/2 inch hose which hooks to your skimmer line. Now if your vacuuming leaves they do make a vacuum that attaches to a garden hose that creates suction when the garden hose pushes water to the vacuum. The reason most Vacuums don't come with hoses is all pools require a different length hose and the longer the more expensive they are.
