    What a strong soul. I have serious health issues and I'm in and out of the hospital 6-8 times a year and I can't imagine what kind of misery she was in. For her to continue to see the beauty of this world while having such pain was a testament to what an amazing human she was.

    This may sound a bit superficial and silly, but I was gifted two sofa pillows with paintings of Frida Khalo by Frida Kahlo on them. I knew her name in passing, but after owning these pillows I had to look deeper into who she was. I went down a Frida Kahlo rabbit hole, and boy did it go deep. This woman was truly something special, and what a life she lived. I may not be on board with all her politics, but I respect this woman as much as any other human being that has lived. Good to see her get a Biographics video, she earned it.

    • @christineparis5607
      @christineparis5607 Před 5 lety +12

      That is not superficial or silly at all.!
      I think it's such an incredible thing to have something by her. I always loved the style she adopted of the tehuana women of Mexico, who were very strong, dignified and graceful. Wearing her long skirts with embroidered petticoats and flowers and ribbons, with ancient mexican jewelry with the shawls and bright colors just made her an iconic figure in her own lifetime. It is amazing that even though she did not sell much during her life, she was never overshadowed by her much more famous husband. He had tremendous respect for her art and never tried to influence her in any way, encouraging her always to be herself. I think they loved each other with a deep trust in their loyalty to the others art. Living together was something else....
      I would live it if you can reccomend any other books on her that I might have missed. I've only read the one put out around the movie...

    See this is why I love this channel
    1. People complain that they've never heard of the person in the video but when you don't know who it is your in for an amazing story, not to say that biographies on more established figures are bad cuase you get to learn new things about them.
    2. The way some of the historical figures "interact" with each other like (i.e. otto van bismark & Napoleon 3rd) is great. I mean the fact that leon trostsky and Freida Kahlo not only met and crossed paths but had a friendship is fascinating and yet another reason you guys should do timeline videos where you go more in depth on events surrounding multiple individuals

    The 2 Frida's symbolize the two worlds that were part of her heritage: the german/proper lady attire (not innocence) & the mexican/folklore attire (that not even mexican women of higher society wore, as they donned europeanized clothes). One of the things that made her so different was the fact that she adopted the indigenous traditional clothes & jewelery, something not at all common in the 'fine' mexican society. It was part of her worldview of being proud and showcasing Mexican heritage rather than adopting european traditions (in painting, in clothes, in food, etc.). She broke from the current and it's what made her so iconic. I love Frida! Great vid!

    I enjoyed this one. I learned some new things about Frida that didn't know. Her influence on the art world is still very strong. She will be remembered as one of the greatest artists in the annals of human history.

    I love the fact that she became far more famous than Diego ever was, and now he has become a footnote in her story

    As a Mexican, I do not share her Soviet political views (my grandfather suffered the religious antiCatholic persecution of the late 1920s), although I admire her courage to live on despite her injuries. Her art and sexual preferences raised huge scandals in the conservative Mexican society of her era; well, she's an art heroine since long ago, how times change more and more!

    Frida is the greatest artist that is, was, or ever will be in my opinion. I was sceptical of this video because her and her art are so near and dear to my heart but for a general overview it was informed and respectful! Excellent job and hope to see one about Diego as well!
