I agree with faysal. You have to include players you’ve never watched before or else don’t call it an ALL TIME list. It’s like asking people who the best basketball player of all time is? Most will say Jordan even though many many of those people have never seen him play and possibly only saw him on the wizards. You have to appreciate greatness

Football has existed for more than 100 years and is rich in history. Pele and Maradona are often considered two of the all time GOATs, and they played in the 60s and 80s respectively. Therefore, any all time footballing conversation needs to take into account the past decades. Nobody gives an eff whether you have watched them or not. As if anyone here has really watched the Serie A games of Maldini or Pirlo back in the day?

@@great10toes40 Nonsense, it’s just laziness to research. It takes more effort to research all the past greats (e.g. read up articles, watch footages on youtube, interviews with footballers on their idols, elder experts’ and fans’ insights, etc). It’s not that difficult.
Faysal takes some stick, but I actually thought he had the best takes in this pod. Iniesta above Zidane can only be the opinion of people who didn’t see prime Zidane.
You guys should do an all time draft where you are each given a limited budget to work with and you need to build out your squad without going in debt. Players could be valued between like 1m and 10m based on quality at their prime

Agreed, it is very embarrassing to not bring up anyone before 1993 in any all time football conversations. Maradona, Pele, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Van Basten, Platini, Gerd, Zico, Gullit, Baggio etc - I don’t care whether you have watched them or not, you need to include them in the discussions, otherwise it’s meaningless.

But regardless of his defensive duties, the debate was over the best 8s and 10s and he was a 6, so it doesn't matter. I personally would have included him because of his creative role as a regista, but my point was that Faysal was correct in how he was positioned.

He's a good host. There's few things I notice he does that keeps the conversation flowing and inclusive for everyone. There has to be a cut-off point as well.
Today sharks wasn’t in his best form and he said it he was tired. It actually ruined the flow and the vibes of this episode. I recommend he either films when he’s feeling to film or delay it until he gets the energy back.

i grew up watching Pirlo, my favorite player of all time. he was the deepest midfielder but literally the least defensive of the diamond. Gattuso was the dm, pirlo was the facilitator. milan and italia didnt play standard 6s and 8s. Pirlo, to me, is a true cm, not cdm, deeming him available for this list and criminal that he's 7th. top 5 cm of all time

It was a tough choice between Iniesta and Zidane, for me Iniesta shaped so much of what a midfielder is, that i'd have to go with him first.
For me Zidane fits that description better

This will probably be a long comment, but screw it. Solid table, however I truly believe this podcast is at its best with Starplayer, Shaun, Shakry, and then another regular (Liban, Faysal, etc.). I know Starplayer's ball knowledge is not elite and people shit on Shaun for his takes, but thats what made it great. I watch SDS not for the ball knowledge but for the interesting segments, the personalities, and the complete jokes.
One of most I have laughed this year is during "Guess The Mystery Footballer" when Shaun messed up the 2/3 hints for Witsel and when one of Shaun's clues was "he was in therapy at the age of 10". The blunders, ridiculous takes, and banter made this one of the best podcasts out there. Still a great show, but the vibes are not the same as a few months back.

Modric 2015?? ARE YALL INSANE?! Modric was madrid’s most used player and most important player in 2013& the reason they went on to win la decima (before him they couldnt win for 12yrs). And when he got injured in 2015, that was the only time since his arrival that they got knocked out from the cl until their meltdown in 2019.
In 2010, SAF named modric the best player in the premier league, period. He made spurs a constant top 4 side, they were mid table before him. In 2008, he was chosen (over iniesta) in euros team of the tournament. Even as far back as 2006, modric rose to prominence after demolishing England and Gerard & knocking them out euro qualifiers.
Just cuz he was born in croatia during war& had a way tougher rode to prominence than the privileged spanish doesnt mean he wasnt always brilliant. U simply werent watching or paying attention... he didnt just suddenly get good at age 27-28 in real madrid. He always was, but y would the media pay attention to a croatian war refugee anyway.

Kroos is not a generational talent, never the best player on his team, just a great player in dominant teams.
If you know ball you can differ who is a better player than the other by judging impact, talent, years on top, leading teams etc etc and not only his trophycase.
