Any Human being if they are buying a MacBook Air and expected to last at least 5 years or more, do yourself a favor, and get the 16gb ram at least, at this point I don't care what you're using it for, when it comes to Ram with 8gb you're already maxing it out by having like 2 tabs open in your browser and using swap memory which will eventually destroy your ssd in the long run, have you seen how many dead base model m1 MacBook Air there is, well that's because of the swap memory, and if you don't even need the storage just at least get the 16gb ram model. also keep in mind that 8gb of ram has been standard since like 2012 or 2013, well that's more than 10 years ago!
I just upgraded to a MacBook Air M3 15in 1TB 24GB Space Gray from a 2015 MacBook Pro 13in 512GB 16GB Core i7 dual core 3.1GHZ. The 15in Air with the case weighs less than the 13in pro. It’s nice to have a modern machine.

i was leaning towards midnight from the getgo but honestly after seeing it in real life in stores now, i find it to be the most disappointing of them all, and think it wont hold up with the times, it looks cheaper and more like an old windows laptop form afar, classic silver has won me over, even space gray looks better imo, which is a shame since i normally love the darker options

So i ran some benchmarks so if u r seeing m2 256 gb yes the ssd is slower than m2 512gb but in m3 speeds are same in both 256gb and 512gb also for 13 inch m3 and 15 inch m3 i can see 15 inch gives me better battery but if u r not a multitasking person like too many things opened on screen then 13 inch would be great as it is much portable and lighter kinda also if you are thinking about using it after studies too like after 4yrs then go for 512gb
It comes down to price difference. M3 is definitely better. It is a noticeable upgrade as I tested them out. For more than $200 difference, I would get M2 but for $100 difference that apple list on its website, I would get M3.
I don’t think you have used midnight color enough to say it’s significantly better than M2 like you said. There is hardly any difference and my M3 catches smudges easily. It looks dirty and I have to clean it up. I am planning to get it replaced with Starlight it is still under return window

I would do either M2 or M3 with 16gb. You can always add external SSD if needed. I literally just got home from Best Buy returning an 8gb. It may have been ok, but I didn’t like the fact that it swapped and was maxed out on memory just from two browser tabs open.

If you're getting those for the same price and the only diff is with m2 you get more storage and m3 you get lesser storage, then I'd personally go with the m3. Newer machine, better specs, will hold value a little better down the road, and you can always use cloud storage and ssd. However if 512 storage is non negotiable for you, then you have no other choice than the m2 haha.

None, go with the MBA M2. The MBA M3 does not have really an improvement. Where is it? The 10% increase is because of the smaller production process and that's it. Smaller means less heat and in this case the speed can be ramped up to the thermal design. This is not worth mentioning it. Apples figures are misleading. The Wifi 6E is not needed for most people.
I will keep my M2 MBA just bought it 2 weeks ago and it is a fantastic machine. Now I understand why so many people keep their M1 for years. Coming from a HP laptop going to M2 is night and day especially for photo editing everything here is smooth and....I don´t hear the fans.
Like Windows laptops this year, it is a minor iterative upgrade meant for people coming from the M1 or older Intel machines. It has a newer design than those, a faster CPU, 65% faster GPU, RayTracing support, a large neural engine, much longer battery life than Intel Macs, faster RAM and SSD, 1080p camera, brighter display (500 nits), MagSafe, etc. It is a fantastic upgrade for those coming from 4-Y-O machines, which, according to the industry, is the average upgrade cycle. Comparing year-on-year is just flexing as laptops are not meant to be upgraded yearly unless you are rich or run a business.
I had the m1 for a week and then the m3 air came out. Went back and returned and upgraded and surely glad I did. Im sure the m2 is just fine as well but I wanted longer support. either machine is just fine and total preference and budget.
