  • This is what the aftermath of one of the biggest 2019-2020 bushfires on Australia's east coast looks like.
The Currowan fire which began in late November 2019, and is still "being controlled" in mid January, has consumed 480,000 hectares of forest and farmland. It's 140 km from north to south and something like 50km wide, on average.
We take a drive along the recently reopened Kings Highway, which connects Canberra to Batemans Bay, passing through 40 km of the burned area.

A fire came within 600 metres of the western edge of Braidwood at the start of 2020. Last time it burned from near Braidwood to the coast as one major fire was in 1984 or 1985, my dad was telling me (i was 2 or 3 years old at that time)
We have had alot of rain since then and we even had flooded areas.

Thanks Gavin, how bloody depressing, a disaster (of our making).

On my first post-fire trip up the Kings Hwy I couldn't believe how thorough the fire had been in that even in areas of green pasture it burned the tops of the tussocks.

I liked your video until you became political.
