      Where did u get that tape??? Brown oxide hasnt been used in 60 years.
      I have been working with tape for that long. Dont bother with that little notch, just lay it flat on the hub and spin it. I have also seem newbies apply a little moisture at the end. Helps it to adhere to the hub, but I would only use it on leader tape

    The third way of threading a reel to reel is similar to your second way, apart from you don't put the tape into the slot. It's far quicker, and the tension holds it there fine.

    When you insert the leader tape in the slot, meanwhile you should loosen the TAPE reel with your left hand so that the leader tape will not fall from your hand. Thank you. Krikor from L. A. CA.

    Hey great video thank you so much. I just picked up a Wollensak 3m 1520. I ordered tape for it . This is my first time with tape and I’m pretty excited .
    How long should I let it “play”before recording on it! Thank you !

  • @krikorhadidian897
    @krikorhadidian897 Před 4 lety +2

    While you are inserting the leader tape in that slot, you don't have to turn the reel with your hand anymore; the only thing that you have to do, is loosen meanwhile the LEFT reel and turn a little bit the RIGHT reel; that's it and push PLAY.

    Every time I do this, the leader falls out of the slot before I can get it spun enough to hold it. It's the most frustrating thing. I'd rather have one that you slot and put an inch or so so hanging out. I tried 10 times before I got the tape into the slit and wound without it falling out. It was just like what happened to you the first time, but I managed to screw it up 10 times.

  • @novanrichiemarapao7972

    I moved back to Cleveland when my father died. He has this same machine as yours. The pinch roller isn't moving and it seems to be going too fast when I press the button and I'm not getting any sound from it. I think I'll post it to Marketplace to get an electrician or someone who understands this and sell it to them. I can't figure it out.

  • @grindinglicks
    @grindinglicks Před 2 lety

    Just unwind the supply reel a bit to loosen it up until you get the take up reel started, then re apply the tension

    • @MrWolfSnack
      @MrWolfSnack Před rokem

      This is what I always seen done in old detective shows from the same time period when they are playing an evidence tape. They hand-wind the take up reel and the supply manually until the playable tape is just coming out of the edge of the reel. Then they hit play on the machine.

    @bradleighutz6715 Před rokem

    I threaded mine outside to outside and the music is still in reverse, starting with the last song on the tracklist. Either I'm doing something really wrong or the tapes are wound onto the reels backwards. They do have to go onto the machine label side down in order to have the tape on the outside, which I thought seemed weird. I would think the labels should be on the visible side. It's a Revox A77 deck.

    • @MrWolfSnack
      @MrWolfSnack Před rokem

      Did you play the tapes or did these come from someone else? It's possible someone played the tape then left it on the take-up reel and not rewinding it back onto the supply reel then it just got forgotten about for decades. So then when you're trying to play the take-up reel what has happened is because the last recordings are now on the outer edge (top) of the reel playing first, you are hearing the end of the reel first. Just put this reel onto the take-up side and rewind it onto a supply reel and you should be OK. Barring that it's likely maybe a case of the way your machine loads the reels is not universal to other machines and maybe your machine has a specific orientation to it.

  • @krikorhadidian897
    @krikorhadidian897 Před 3 lety

    Once you insert the Leader Tape into that slot, just loosen the left reel and meanwhile turn the take -up reel with your hand and that's it.

    So idk if you have an answer for this, but I found mine has a bad fuse. Replaced it with the same kind. Powered up and ran the reel for a second then the power went off. Checked the fuse and it was blown again. I've checked all the wires and connections along with the amp pcb and nothing looks burnt out or disconnected any idea what I could look for as a solution?

    • @CTHMProductions

      Wish I could help, but I really have no idea. I am not an expert by any means with electronics.

    • @fusion-music
      @fusion-music Před 2 lety

      Not sure if you found a solution, but 12 volts - a youtube channel does several open reel repairs and diagnosis. No one can answer your question really. But I think a key thing to know is how to identify capacitors that need replaced. Blown fuse indicates you have a short somewhere. Capacitors, diodes and resistors can all short. It will take you a lot longer than an engineer/technician.
