So sad he's being cut from the live action. He's being cut for the sake respecting the original take yet he's one of the key elements that made the Mulan movie a all time favorite and success. Think of an apple pie, without sugar, egg, flour, or crust and that's Mulan with the Mushu element

Murphy had a clause in his Shrek Contracts to never reprise the role of Mushu. I think it was smart move.

Apparently, to get revenge on Mulan for killing him with fireworks, Shan-Yu's spirit infiltrates the family ancestors and tricks Mushu into thinking that he'll lose his guardian job if Mulan and Shang got married with a fake pink slip so that Mushu will turn against Mulan, he knew the perfect way to get revenge on Mulan is to turn her own pet dragon against her.
Disney: We want to make a serious war epic, so we cut Mushu from the live action remake.
