- Planning for Leh Ladakh trip in 2019? In this video, I will tell you all you need to know about rent vs own bike for your Ladakh trip (in Tamil). Also, I've covered all the details you need to know about Permits for your Leh Ladakh trip. I hope this video answers the question "Should I take my bike or rent bike?". Do watch till the end for a surprise. I am a Tamil Travel Vlogger, so this video is in Tamil, but I have written captions so turn it on.
I've covered most of the advantages and disadvantages related to rental bikes. But your own bike is always the first preference. Watch the video to find out why.
First permit:
When you travel from Manali to Ladakh you need a permit to cross the Rohtang Pass. It's called the Beyond Rohtang Pass permit. You can apply for it from the below link.
"Beyond ROHTANG PASS" permit. Link to apply online: rohtangpermits.nic.in/BeyondR...
It costs around Rs. 50, because its only for the Congestion Fee. Do keep in mind that Rohtang Pass is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance.
Do you need this Rohtang Permit when travelling from Leh to Manali? NO, you don't need it if you come from Leh to Manali. This is the first route that I talk about in the Ladakh Itenary video: • Leh Ladakh ROUTE PLAN ...
Second Permit:
This is the permit you need to visit the places in Ladakh. It's called the Ladakh Inner Line Permit. It can cost around Rs. 480 per person and depends on the number of days you are going to spend in visiting these places. You need to get this permit from the TIC office in Leh, near the Leh Market, opposite to J&K Bank.

That is a good suggestion bro. Thanks for that. However, price is not really the problem in ladakh, you can get stay options for very cheap. What actually is something to consider, is the availability. Stay options are available at specific points which I mentioned in the itenary video. And your goal each day will be to reach a place where you can stay and spend the night.

What about the saftey onn the roads bro as people will shelter anywhere they want and whether we can go as couples or to go in group. Worried of strangers on road and how about booking rooms whether we need to book prior or we can book on spot?
Nothing to worry much about safety bro. The local people of the mountains are very very tourist friendly. I went with my wife, and have seen many couples as well. Better to book rooms in prior wherever possible, but it's not always possible to book in prior, in that case you can find places on the way to stay.
