I remember watching the debate shortly after it came out. I was still in high school and watching Finkelstein surgically eviscerated Dershowitz was incredible and helped shape my views of how to engage with dishonest actors.

It’s tough though. Finkelstein did it because he’s an expert in the field and like he said (read the book 4-5 times). Dershowitz is a master of dirty tricks

For Derschowitz to make claims like "Palestinians celebrate when a kid dies from an attack in Israel", and then be hilariously exposed by history with actual photographs, articles and TV reports showing Jewish settlers bringing sofas up to hilltops to watch IDF bombing Palestinian neighbourhoods like a show... Sometimes historical irony is the best form of irony.

Norm is an obvious crackpot that doesn’t want to discuss any of the issues pertaining to the conflict because he doesn’t want to be contradicted. Instead, norm tries to discredit decimal points and misspellings in books that nobody is going to read in order to hide the fact that he supports baby killing in the name of Muhammad.

I'm eighty-one years old and hope to be more like Norman when I grow up. He has one of the least sonorous voices and truly among the best set of words/thoughts.

Reducing the number in Benny Morris from 200,000-300,000 to 2,000-3,000 actually does fit Joan Peters' agenda of downplaying the size of the indigenous Arab population in Palestine.
The first official census was taken in Palestine in 1922, by the British mandated government. A total population of 757,182 individuals was found, of whom 590,390 were Muslims, 83,694 Jews, and 73,024 Christians.
Twenty years later, Derschowitz has managed to completely destroy whatever positive reputation he once had. He has no credibility.

Norman brings me an Irish-Belgian Canadian to tears of gratitude for his humanity. His spirit reminds me of the Jewish doctor in our poorish neighbourhood pre socialized medical that would never turn down a person too poor to pay.
Not all Jewish people are bad I'm Jewish not religious but I want and hope for peace. I had no idea what's been happening in Gaza before this recent war. I'm ashamed, but atleast I know the truth and will speak up to the truth

I have the upmost respect for this man! His integrity, character and conviction is inspiring! He is an amazing speaker and his knowledge and debate style is the reason why the cowards will not allow him to speak in the mainstream media. I think the reason why Dershowitz went after Norm so much is because Norm has used deliberate and excesive force against him. Literally, watching the "debate" Norm went guns blazing, ripping Dershowitz to shreds. It wasn't debate, because in a debate there are two sides engaging in arguments, this was so one sided that calling it verbal massacre is more fitting. :D

Are you saying Finklestien was in the wrong somehow? EVIL SHIT needs to be called out, immediately and with NO compassion involved. That IS a debate.

re: Torture, I'm reminded of something Chomsky has pointed out on many occasions. When the Nuremburg trials were created at the end of WWII, the crimes with which the Nazis were charged had to be acts that the allies did not commit since, by definition, anything OUR side does is legal.

Saw this interview two nights ago. This is a masterclass in how to eviscerate your opponent’s spurious arguments in a slow, methodical fashion.
Dershowitz got utterly destroyed in the debate, it is hard to watch. It also shows in a bad light the whole Harward Law School as an institution. I would never want to study there after watching this debate.
Consider this: if this debate had happened a couple months earlier, it would have been Barry White whose death was being commemorated by having his music played over that footage.

There may be some points on which I disagree with Norman Finkelstein. But I have immense respect for his opinion which is based on historical record and factual arguments and not sophistry like Dersh. If it were not for Norm's participation, this performance by Dersh would be unwatchable.

I have held the one-state solution as the only viable option for both peoples to co-exist on the same piece of land for as far back as I can remember. Forgive me if I misunderstood his position.

The modern State of Israel was founded by Europeans with no direct link to the land. They were forced off by terror. You can deny it but it's the fact whether you like it or not
Norman really did not take human nature into account --- Dershowitz felt he was being ambushed by the encounter, that his entire public reputation was being destroyed on the spot, so that for such a vain and unforgiving man as Dershowitz, this was quite unforgivable.
At very least, you cannot predict what harm such a man will do… At worst, you can assume he'll try to destroy you.

I was born in Abu Dhabi, so i didn't get to meet a lot of jews growing up. The best I knew about jewish culture or I should say - every day jews - was from the few books I read, a few flicks I watched..
One line that always stuck with me about Jews was by...I think his name was Richard Ben Cramer?

Dershowitz is way out of his depth. Finkelstein has spent over 40 years studying the conflict in Israel/Palestine.

Because it’s irrelevant. He said to find errors, an error was found. To then debate the claim that it hurt his argument (which I disagree with personally) would then devolve the conversation further. You are now debating whether or not that would hurt or help his argument instead of the validity of the claims. On top of that the entire book is fraudulent so why even give merit to such lowly unfounded claims?

Quite a trick to change the definition of colonial/colony to suit the movement of the Jews to Palestine.
Jews had never left The Land of Israel. True, many were scattered after the uprising against the Roman Empire (Arabs were not even around then). But the Land of Israel NEVER belonged to the local arabs and the local arabs NEVER had a state of their own. Jews began returng to their homeland under the Othman Turks and later under the British rule.
Study History, read the Bible and the Qur'an - it's written there that Allah gave this land to Israel. The Arabs came out against Allah, attacked the Jews - and lost. That's it. A conclusion - don't come out against Allah, don't attack the Jews, and you won't be needing to complain.

Whitney Webb 's an American journalist book explains a lot a lot about the connection between Epstein and others.
Amy Goodman , Juan Gonzalez, and team Democracy now have always been a great journalism for America. I remember this debate. I was living in NYC when Derkowitz got Claus Von Bullo off. I knew then something was wrong. I was in a restaurant, and they all were at the next table with the soap star actress that Von Bullo was involved with.
Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) was a journalist, writer of essays, satirist and novels and one of America's greatest writers. Orwell, who has not read, "1984" and "Animal Farm?"Mr. Norm Finkelstein definitely won this debate.

@@jordandubin I did try to find the poll online (which I saw ages back) but I couldn’t get it. Finkelstein references it in a video called something like, “Could Pope Francis end the Israel-Palestine conflict?” But it is true that most German parties are strongly pro-Israel (for pretty straightforward psychological reasons) and the relentless support of their country for Israel may in fact be one reason for the public’s disillusionment with it.
