      Now people suggest me to build an RC boat to tow my boat. This is a really good idea. Will look into that also. Thanks for watching and your comments.

      Thanks for watching. In my test run, this small motor's performance exceeded my expectation. But I need to modify the cooling of the power controller so it can run at 350 W without overheating. This will be my winter project. You can watch my test in this series czcams.com/play/PL2ShZzOUu01tp1iJVRHC1k8ObPYgq46G5.html

      Honestly, there is still a lot of work I need to do to make a usable system. I will experiment with the simple heat sink solution to cool the power controller before the kayaking season in April/May. Will provide an update. Cheers!

    RCTESTFLIGHT channel recently posted a video where he had his rc boat tow him 20 miles in a kayak. I thought that might be a way around having to register a small boat, if its being towed its not under its own power... the vdo name is " my DIY R/C Boat Pulled me 20 Miles!!!" i tried using a large bilge pump strapped to an oar to move a 12' aluminum boat, it worked on a still pond but not enough to use in a current

    • @DIYUSA
      @DIYUSA  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for the input. It is a very good idea. I will check out how others did that. With the RC boat, I could put a larger battery and dual motors. Your 12' boat should be much heavier than my coroplast boat.

    Why there a holes around the housing. Other thruster didn't have holes there. I assume it breaks the jet.

    • @DIYUSA
      @DIYUSA  Před 11 měsíci

      This is a very good question. I don't know the answer. Unfortunately I have taken this assembly apart, otherwise I will run a test with the holes blocked (use tapes) and see if that makes a difference.

      Thanks for the follow-up. Sorry for the delay in finishing and testing this drive. I have busy working on other projects: a foldable foam pontoon boat, then convert that to a sail boat.... etc. Now I am working on a $25 paddle drive. Next will be finishing up this motor drive. I should be able to test this drive in the river in about 2-3 weeks! Please stay tuned. Thanks for watching!

    Same problem in California. Even a pathetic little motor like that and you have to register. Make a pole mounted setup that you hold in your hand (wear straps and put flotation devices on the shaft, not mounted to the boat). Or use a large RC boat and tow your kayak if you get tired. Or try umbrella sailing.

    • @DIYUSA
      @DIYUSA  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the suggestions... now I have one more project to consider, i.e. to build a RC boat :-) I can even put two motors and a larger battery in it. Local rules allow eBike on the road without a license. A drone less than 250 gm doesn't need registration. I hope in the future there will be a change in the rules to allow motorized boat travels at 2 mph without needing registration.

    Thank you! Can this motor be used in the salt water?

    • @DIYUSA
      @DIYUSA  Před 11 měsíci +1

      It should work in salt water, the problem is how long it will last if we use it in salt water. I believe if you wash the motor every time you use it, it will last longer.

    A man after my own heart. You have a $150 kayak and they want $150 to register it if you put a motor on it. It reminds me of the harbor freight trailer that costs $300 to buy and $300 tax, tag, and title and only carries 1500 pounds.

    • @DIYUSA
      @DIYUSA  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for your comment! Most of my kayaks are under $100 :-) But this year I built 5 , and now, which one should I register? I will have more boats next year. I will also recycle my 2021 ones to build 2022 ones :-) eBikes can be on the road without licensing. If an eBike hit a person, it will cause more damage than my kayak going at 2 mph hitting another boat. My foldable boat probably will fold itself into a ball :-) Cheers!

As with this design, I need to modify the cooling of the power controller so I can have the motor running at 350 W. The heat sink comes with the module seemed to be able to support 100 W only.

      Here those with DUIs are allowed to walk the street freely with no jail time... same with arm robbers... If I ever get caught, they will probably give me a warning, or a small fine at the most.🙂
