Quite an Iconic gig. Oasis were headlinging this festival and Snow Patrol were on before them. During the day of the festival was the moment Oasis broke up so they pulled out of the gig. So Snow Patrol filled in and just played Oasis covers. Incredibly brave to go on stage infront of all those people unprepared and playing another bands songs!
I didn't realise that?! S#it! I can't believe I missed that detail, I've been following snow patrol for 20 +years and a massive oasis fan! I've seen them 8 times! I genuinly just thought it was a tribute as opposed to a 'replacement'! Who knew, Mr Lightbody saves the scene effortlessly and with quirky humour! 🤣
Technically Oasis broke up a couple of days later, minutes before their Rock en Seine slot in Paris. But it seems like everybody knew it was over - check out Keane covering Cast No Shadow and MGMT covering Live Forever in the same festival
And they dont get the credit they deserve. Behaviour ( which i loved) aside, oasis are a phenomenal band. If theyd been a bunch of kiss ass pussies, theyd be top 20 on all music lists

And then selfishly couldn't get along and ended it all prematurely....nothing says 'it's all about the fans' like breaking up right before a huge festival and leaving all your fans wanting... I don't deny their impact or 'success' with certain audiences, but I never could understand the level of selfishness and plain ol' immaturity they demonstrated by this and many other acts...
Snow Patrol are just class to have done that. No ego, no evy, no haughtiness. They knew the crowd was so disappointed by Oasis' absence and they just made 'em a gift. There's another video were they praise Muse and tell the crowd how lucky they all are to be about to see them perform. Gary really looks like a nice human being.

When the crowd is genuinely singing in unison at the same volume as the singer, even cancelling the instrument, that’s one hell of a fucking crowd. Sounds like the equivalent of one of Oasis’ Argentina crowds. Mad for it.
