The thing about pipes is, for me, something that makes me slow down and pay attention for the amount of time I'm smoking. Not a lot of things can do that. Campfires tend to as well.

I got this 30 dollar pipe off Amazon, pear, handmade in Ukraine, 9mm. It smokes great! Having some sutliffs vanilla custard this morning, had a slightly longer break in but I’m loving the ergonomics, and the sweet smell of sutliffs!

I loaded up my 2023 Peterson Christmas Canadian with some Ennerdale and sat out in the back garden with the birds to watch this. Fitting pipe, and background sounds! Those are some beautiful pipes! A couple of months ago I picked up an estate Peterson system army mount p-lip at a shop in K.C. It is in great condition, and it's a better quality pipe than my two new production Petersons.

The pipe smoking industry is too versatile with pipes and tobacco stuff for me to explore all that well. Two reasons are that I don't have the money and I found a pipe and a tobacco to suit that I really, really enjoy. And despite not giving more a try than I already have I'm having a great time. 😊❤

I have 7 estate pipes: 5 Dunhill, 3 Brigham Canadian made. All but two were never smoked estates- my favourite kind of estate ;) . Love the feel of vulcanite , but give me acrylic any day for ease of care. Beautiful Christmas pipe there sir!

The oldest estate pipe I have I purchased from a gent in England who had a great price on a 1939 Marxman pipe that his grandfather smoke during the bombings in England in WWII. It’s the oldest estate pipe in my collection. Happy piping also barkeepers friend and extra v olive oil works great on those vulcanite steams of which most of my pipes are.

I keep my vulcanise pipes in a draw also when I've smoked and cleaned them I put a thin film of chap stick on the stems 4 years old no sign of oxidation take it easy

I try to learn and practice but often time I hit the wall because many of those "advices" involving products that are "discontinued". Please don't mind me, I just need to relax as you suggested, I think. And thanks for the reply, I have never expected a reply from a host of any channel at all.

Today I am smoking McClellend 40th anniversary flake in a Peterson 2023 Halloween Jekyll and Hyde bent 302 p-lip, (so it’s half smooth half rusticated). That’s a nice package with all kinds of great goodies, I am sure you will enjoy it all. It’s Saint Patrick’s day and I figured, Peterson is Irish and Mcclellend is Irish too haha. ☘️ 🍻 cheers Kevin. Good afternoon my friend. Of course you knew when you picked Sunbear I was going to have to repack a different pipe, a Brigham Tundra Bent Bulldawg with Sunbear Tupelo. I have bought both Ascorti and Mauro Armellini estate pipes. I purchased an Ascorti 1986 Tinderbox Christmas pipe that was unsmoked as an estate pipe. I break it out in the fall and smoke holiday blends in it until after New Years. I love that Comoy, as that is a real beauty. I only have two pipes that have vulcanite stems, I do prefer the acrylic stems. It is nice to hear that the birds have found you again. Could hear the Red Wing Blackbird. That call speaks of springtime to me. Que the happy music.
By the way, which Sun Bear release was your favorite?
@@hobbitonpiper I find subtle differences. Hard question to answer, I do know that the Mountain Berry is my least favorite. I may have to put the black locust above the original because there is something about that honey. The tupelo just below the original.

I ordered 3 tins of the 2023 Cringle Flake. I was just going to let them age while I worked on smoking the 2022 version that I had opened. However I kept reading how lots of folks were saying that their tins of the 2023 version were too dry. I eventually decided to open my tins to check them. All three seemed too dry for my liking, so I put each in a small mason jar along with a mini Boveda pack to add back some moisture while they age. I love the 2022 version! (Even if the perique in it can smell a bit too much like poop 😅 )
Hopefully it’ll still smoke fine with proper flavor!
It's a bright, sunny, and very breezy 50° early spring afternoon here in Minnesota and I'm parked out on the porch in the sunshine smoking some Mac Baren HH Pure Virginia in a Morgan Bones Milan. It seemed like a nice blend for the weather today, and I'm still nursing some very sore sinuses from retrohaling Old Dark Fired last night so a mellow Virginia is much appreciated. I'm just going to let this be a lesson to me not to retrohale anything with Perique or Dark Fired Kentucky in it, aside from Orlik Golden Sliced at least since the Perique content in that one is low enough that it doesn't seem to bother my sniffer.
In any case, I really enjoyed the longer video today and what a great care package that was! I'm a big fan of Early Morning Pipe too (I actually just had some in a Country Gentleman before breakfast this morning) and that Savinelli St. Nicholas pipe is just gorgeous! I'd sure be pleased to get my hands on one of those too. =)

I do like some of the annual releases. Was lucky enough to grab a bit of Country Squires Mirkwood, oh sorry! Dark Holler 😂 I have six of those little jars, wish I had six dozen! I had an older gentleman who has no one to pass things down to give me his collection. In it was a great GBD London Rhodesian, a Roma 622 KS, a Dunhill, and a weird one called a Streamliner that I had never seen before. All wonderful smoking pipes after cleaning them up.

I have a few estates. I’m particularly fond of my vintage, pre-1950s Kaywoodies. My favorite is a 1932 Kaywoodie Acorn, Grecian briar.
These early Kaywoodies are exceptionally high quality and I love that early 20th century look. I’ll find them on occasion in antique stores and on eBay. Once I get them, I usually send them off to Rich at Briarville in GA and he makes them look brand new.
The Sav 626 is my favorite model. I own two and they’re some of my favorite pipes.

My first time trying a non-aromatic blend (I'm pretty new to the hobby). It's a house blend English from a shop in Fort Smith, and I'm enjoying it in a briar I bought on Amazon years ago. I really need to find out more about this pipe haha.

Great video as always, Kevin. I am smoking some Sutliff Blend No 5 in my Vauen Classic 3915 smooth pipe. I really enjoy English blends in this pipe. The Virginia blends I enjoy tend to burn a little hot in this pipe, so this is dedicated to English blends.

Recently become aware of a few folks countering vulcanite w a pref for acrylic, funnily enough! Is interesting (and I don’t necessarily have one myself as of yet…also haven’t progressed to clenching bare yet for fear of tooth marks, so, know that is what makes vulcanite favourers endorse em so guess I’ll see there!)
Not tried a p-lip yet either! Looking forward to that one (as and when)✌️

Started w a WO Larsen XL lovat (with some Mississippi River; fantastic stuff!)
Then moved onto my recently acquired, WDC slim bulldog, complete with what looks like gold-plated metal cap, and band, and amber stem, v much suggesting a late 19th-early 20th century origin…
Still breaking that in/removing the old ghosts of its briar, haha, but it smokes nice, for something so old! Had some Solani English Mixture/Gold in that (which is a blend that’s really growing my on me; a light English, with some unique, charming tastes/character, maybe a bit more herbaceous/oriental!)👍

Im new to your channel. Have gotten back to smoking pipes after a long time not. Its amazed me all the online options you have now. Part of the reason I got away from pipes were the very few options i had in my area for good pipe tobacco. I like the ol stand bys like carter hall or half n half. But for a bit even they were gettin hard to find. I enjoy your reviews greatly. And it was one of yours that made me order my first online tobacco. Blood red moon, Cult. Right up my alley and what im smoking right now watching this vid. Keep up all you do. Great great content you have

All of those were wonderful pipes, good purchase! Definitely do a review of Escudo, it might be one of my desert island blends. A fellow piper sent me a sample of a 2014 Escudo in a sealed mylar pouch, but I'm stuck in the "have my cake or eat it" limbo space with it. I have to find the right time and place to sit with it I think. Keep up the wonderful reviews and smoke with me sessions!

A acrylic stem is for ever and they do look nice as today where different Themes are as accepted.
But for me Vulcanite feels better in mouth, none of "click clack".
I am looking for an Vulcanite stem for my Nr1 pipe.

@@hobbitonpiper Me too, acrylic feels way cleaner as kitchen grade classyfied stuff so for me there is an choise, as clean or as comfy?

Coincidentally I am also smoking my Savinelli 673 Roma with Virginia Golden Flake - a light brown/golden Flake with a hint of honey and orange flavour, made by Kopp for Pfeifen Huber in Munich. My favourite light Virginia for spring and summer. As a lighter I can highly recommend the Sisuman lighter. Very sturdy Finnish made gaslighter. Designwise a mix of an Old boy and a Zippo.
