    thanks...I sent mine back in and they stated that they had a defective build on these. But when I got it back it still had lock rock. Your method worked ...it's gone now. thanks

    Just bought two Benchmades. The mini Freek - freaky smooth and crisp. 535-3 bugout, axis lock is binding. My fingers are sore from trying to work it out. Sending back to Benchmade for repair.

    Thanks for the vid. Have had this knife for a year and it has always had some vertical play. Upon striking the spine very gently on a wooden stump the lock failed. I did as you instructed in the vid and it solved the problem. This video saved me from serious buyers remorse.

    Awesome thanks for the info. Also like you I changed the pocket clip to the standard Benchmade three hole clip on my mini Adamas, it's a lot sturdier than the flimsy deep pocket clip. Thanks for sharing brother!

    I just ordered today the new Shot Show exclusive Benchmade Mini Adamas with dark red micarta scales. Hopefully Benchmade has addressed this issue and figured out a way to assemble these exclusives and further batches of the new Adamas properly so that they don't come from the factory with lock up issue do to poor fit&finish🙏🤞

    For almost $300 those guys need to assemble the knife correctly. My lock is getting stuck with the knife in the open position. Knife failures are dangerous. Period.

    • @Youtube-Censorship-Police
      @Youtube-Censorship-Police Před 22 dny

      it's not an assembly issue to begin with, it's a tolerance issue of the mini and v2 adamas.
      the problem is that the lock-bar goes all the way to the end of the cutouts of the liners leaving no room for self-adjustment when the material wears in.
      imagine it as a liner-lock that has traveled all the way to the other liner.
      that's why ALL mini or v2 regular adamas either come with vertical blade play right out of the box or will quickly develop wiggle.
      there's no real fix for this issue, just don't buy the knife.

    I know a few people who tried this "fix" and it didn't help at all.
    And if benchmade really knew the "fix" was this easy, then I'm sure they'd adjust their assembly process to accommodate this fix. I think for most, the tang is just way to short and round to handle any serious spine hits. This is dangerous even if you don't baton, because say you're using it in a self defense role, any kind of extreme pressure on the spine could make the lock fail.

  • @ThomasConnolly
    @ThomasConnolly Před 2 lety +4

    This is exactly was I don't buy Benchmade first production runs as soon as they go up for pre-order or get released. Why because in my personal experience if you buy a Benchmade first production run knife you're most likely going to get a Knife with quality control and or fit&finish issues. I don't get caught up in any Hype, I tend to sit back and watch other people's experiences and reviews before I buy to avoid getting a Benchmade with issues👍

      Does this mean that this issue has been fixed on the 2nd and later productions runs? Have you personally verified this somehow? I'm looking to get one but only if this issue has been fixed otherwise there's no way I'm buying one! Thank you!

      @topfueljunkie100 I have personally verified that the limited edition of the Benchmade Mini Adamas in red micarta that I bought came absolutely perfect without any issues. Also, it didn't have a burnt edge👍

    I have the full sized one and the lock failed on me and when it's lock the blade will rock back and forth and my bugout doesn't do that

  • @neongirl
    @neongirl Před rokem +1

    Contrary to popular belief, I don't consider disengage the lock to be a problem. I think the Benchmade engineers deliberately loosened the lock so that shock loads on the spine would not cause damage to the liners (this is what happened with the first generation Adamas). The lock does not fail under static loads. It will not fail even with accidental blows to the spine. Refusal is caused precisely by strong, intentional blows, which indicate the misuse of a knife (batoning). This is elementary foolproofing. Benchmade obviously didn't want another "survivor" in the woods to send them bent liners every weekend asking them to replace them. So any attempt to "fix" the lock is not a good idea. Most people simply enjoy owning an Adamas without putting it under unreasonable stress. Therefore, they have no problem with the knife. Problems arise for bushcrafting enthusiasts who are smart enough to batoning with a folding knife without disengage the lock. I think they deserve cut fingers in this case. Just buy a damn axe and stop doing stupid things with a knife.

    Mine has side to side play. Sent it in to Benchmade and still have the issue. Then i tried to fix it and got the play out by adding medium Loctite and tuning the pivot but the play is back. Maybe that's just common with the type of lock

    My full size failed with a light spine tap test. Unfortunately this did not fix the issue. Sending it out soon.... really breaks my heart because I had the original, along with a bunch of other Benchmades.

    What's the DPS angle on your blade? The bevel is really wide.

    • @shortspear
      @shortspear  Před 2 lety +3

      It is 20 per side. The Adamas blade stock is pretty thick. I would probably stick to 25-30 but wanted it a bit more slicy

  • @matthewberry3055
    @matthewberry3055 Před rokem +3

    The adamas is a good knife other than the lock which is outright dangerous. A light spine whack and it disengages and the blade swivels around to take off your fingers. Tried every way I could (including this way) to help the pin to seat farther forward against the tang but it didnt do much to stop the problem. The tang is just too short for the lock to properly engage. Any hits on the spine and the lock disengages. Sold mine for a Cold Steel Recon, which while 'mall cop' in its tacky aesthetics, has a lock that 100 percent will not fail.

    Benchmade has had numerous QC issues since 2008 and has one of the worst QC track records of any American manufacturer in the folder game. The cope is strong. The first production Adamas all had the issue as an outright defect. This method does not work on it. And you shouldn't be having issues on blades this expensive.
