You can train them to come back on dog whistle. I used this technique when i went to outback with my kelpie. Kelpies listen to you much better when they can roam around freely. Also whiste can be heard from really far away.🤞

@Jesse Ianuali well it really depends on the breed. Usually herding dog breeds like kelpie or border collie, you can start with the toy instead of treat as they like playing with toys over treat and then slowly take it away.

@@junkwon8388 Okay thankyou for that, and by slowly taking it away as in like give the command and if they don’t listen then no toy?

Old man kelpie here has been camping with me since he was 7 months old. loyal guard dog, wont leave camp unless its ok, always comes when called or whistled to. As much as many ppl will argue, i dont have to chain him. I realise im watching this 18 odd months later, id be curious to see how things have progressed since this was filmed. Blatant plug here, i have a few vids of old man kelps camping on my chan if youre bored. Gleno.

Will have a look at your videos. She is now two and in the bush is rarely on leash. We only carry it if we see a snake etc. She will stick tight to us in the bush all of the time. We have two wedge tail eagles and Lately she is being swooped by them so a lead is handy then. 😂

did you have to teach him to come back on the whistle or was it more an instinct?
