Greenland Rolling

I had the good fortune to attended a demonstration of Greenland Rolling given by Lesley Mackay, assisted by Alan Forsyth. Have to say I was impressed and genuinely surprised by just how feasible she made it seem, the sort of thing anyone can learn.
The trick is you can float - you float, your boat floats, your paddle floats - and once you accept that it changes your whole outlook. Typically Greenland Rolling is described as "the ancient art of . . . " etc, like its out of date, unsuited to modern sea kayaking. I couldn't disagree more; After just twenty minutes of coaching from Lesley, I found myself convinced that I can learn how to roll. For sea kayaking rolling at least, this just might be the future.
