“Who Knew” (2006) is about losing a loved one to drugs. Pink explained : “My life was insane, I was (in her youth) out of control and doing lots of stupid things. Some of my friends were selling crack, and I got into drugs too. I’ve always been honest about that […]. I found a friend dead from a drug overdose when I was 14. He was a male friend, not a boyfriend. Most of the people at the funeral were just children. It should have been a wake-up call for me, but it wasn’t.”
Pink stated that the song is also about the metaphorical death of friendship. She said : “You’re best friends forever, and then three years later, you haven’t seen each other in two years. What happened? You grow apart and people come in and out of your life for different reasons, seasons.”

Yeah... And when she sings, you'll visit me in my sleep. 😓 That really happened to me several times. It's incredible how much alive someone feels to you even after they're long gone. My best friend passed away February 2019 and these lyrics break my heart everytime, cause still I miss him and I can't seem to grasp he's gone. Still can't really believe it. It was a weird goodbye. Not explained , not expected and didn't get to say goodbye. To this day I don't know where they buried him. Memories are all that I have and music to get by. Treasure your loved ones, because before you know it, they're gone. Pink captured this mourning exquisitely in this track. God bless you all. Amen. 🙏🍀🌺

You learn to survive with their absense there as a wound that never truly heals. And that is why you listen to songs like this and all you can do is cry. I lost my dad recently; I had never felt pain and sadness like this before.

Liked this song as a child and I heard it again today, after awhile. Brought tears because our friend circle is small, however we lost a friend to suicide on mother's day this year. He was like an uncle to my friends son and my son as well. Well always cherish those memories the past few years and we love and miss him alot ♥️

For me, this song has helped me get through my husband's infidelity. To me, it's talking about my husband, someone who vowed to be faithful but in the end i found out he wasnt. I remember one of his people telling me that he he was no good and was out cheating on me. I didn't want to believe it because i truly trusted my husband. But they new better than me and saw things I couldn't belcause i was blinded by love. Now I see that my husband is not the person I thought I knew, someone trustworthy, honest, and loving. I was in love with that person but that person died a long time ago. That person was my best friend and the one i'll forever love and cherish. Now i must mourn them 💔

my best friend of 16 years is now hooked on drugs. she was more than a friend she was my family. she knows everything about me and i know her, she was the only one ive ever had there through everything ive ever been through and we held each other up through the years. i have tried helping her many times but she won't take my help nor does she want it. she isnt even the same person anymore she doesn't even know what is going on around her. it breaks my heart to see her like this and feel helpless because i know theres nothing i can do to save her unless shes willing to take help but the drugs shes taking are ones i know have a high OD rate and im scared everyday that i will be told shes gone i still check on her. i just know that the person she was is no longer there. this song reminds me of her so much

This song reminds me of what happened with this friend I had (it’s a long story, I’ll try to sum it up as best I can) I had just moved to Texas in fourth grade, as soon as I got to my new school, rumors started going around saying I was stuck-up, everyone judged me before they even got to know me, and they never bothered to get to know me either, I literally had no friends, up until I met this girl, we saw each other everyday after school since we both went to YMCA, she was the best thing that happened to me at the time, we would goof off till one of us went home, halfway through fifth grade, it was like our friendship changed, she started calling me annoying, I told the counselor about it and she just called her over, I was so pressured by that counselor nagging me to say something, that I accidentally said, “I don’t want to be friends anymore,” instead of what I really wanted to say, “Do you think I am annoying?” I tried apologizing saying that I didn’t mean it, but, she wouldn’t believe me, she made a new “best friend” that year, and used her to help her bully me, it was like that for the rest of the year, and I would break down in class because of it, she was literally my only friend, I never saw her again after fifth grade.
Years later, now in my 20’s, I found her on Facebook while attempting to make a page of my own, I remembered her and told her “hi”, trying to have a conversation about how we were back then, turns out after fifth grade, she had moved to Georgetown, which was still close by, she remembered me, but, she kept brushing me off saying that she was busy with her mom or hanging out with her “best friend”, a month later, I messaged her again because I didn’t get to ask her if we could be friends again, she never replied, finally, I just gave up, I was really sad about it, I missed hanging out with her and hoped we could have fun together again like we used to😢

I have a bit of a different relationship with this song. I got trapped in an abusive relationship. All of my friends and family were trying desperately to get me out and to show me the destructive situation that I was in. But he was my world. I was drowning. I was willing to defend him and our relationship to the death and that's almost what it came to. For years I heard this song as a story of loss. But now I hear it as a story of freedom. Thank God/ess that he's gone. They knew better.
