💯 I get this a lot on old vintage British bikes. I usually hone out the valve guide bore with a Sunnen Honall, then make an oversized bronze guide. If the press ain’t right, it will spin. I’m curious to know how much press is on the sleeve in the head as well as the guide. Heat transfer may be effected as well… creative fix however
Afternoon, I always watch your videos with interest, great work. question - why did you make the bushing iron ? because of the different thermal expansions this repair does not look reliable. maybe an aluminum bushing would be a better solution ?
Never hold a micrometer close to, or at, the anvil or spindle ends. Always hold the instrument at the outer curve of the frame, preferably on the plastic pads, if fitted.
Hi Paul, I’m currently rebuilding a 2005 Crf250r. I had a valve drop at full throttle, yet unbelievably the head and cylinder survived and all I need to do now is replace a bad left exhaust valve guide. My question to you is: am I doing anything wrong by running just one brass valve guide? The others are in perfect condition but I do not believe they are brass. Should it be all the same material for better heat distribution or something else I’m unaware of? Thanks
Why not just make an oversize guide for the new head size hole? Steel expands less than alloy alluminium it will loosen.

Interesting. Why not make a threaded sleeve to screw into the head? Which has oem inside dimensions for the guide.
Cam shaft journals look rough as !

Why aren't the valve bushings all ported polished like the previous factory defaults?
