My favorite era of Bollywood music...I am not sure anyone can give you a selection of songs that are enough to represent the beauty and melody of the era. Couple of things I would certainly suggest for any podcast, please find songs with sub-titles. One thing we can certainly say for sure is that the poetry and lyrics were far far better in that era compared to now (I also think because of the limitation of how much things can be shown visually, people were also compelled to write down those splendid lyrics and poetry to give the emotion fully to the audience). Second aspect is please include songs from Talat Mahmood, Geeta Dutt and Hemanth Kumar in any of the podcasts you are doing ...

Mukesh usually sang for RAJ KAPOOR who is Kareena kapoor's relative.
Talat Mahmood is supposed to have the largest range of singing voice....in bollywood. I remember hearing that no one could go as low as Talat Mehmood.
Mohammed Rafi sang all the dreamy romantic songs.
Kishor Kumar sang for himself and all the naughty, chirpy songs.

Thank you both for this reaction 🙏. Songs from the late 2940s to 1960s were amongst the best in Indian cinema.
Edema though you prefer Greta Dutts voice, but you totally appreciate the immense vocal style of Lata Mangeshkar which set the goal post. All others female singers of that period and up to today are in their own ways trying to replicate our beloved Lataji. I am always impressed by your capacity to analysis and articulate so amazingly.
I loved most of the songs in this selection, though you should try to listen to the whole songs.
From this selection if I had to select two song for a further reaction , it should:
    1) ‘Naina bares’ by Lata - from the film ‘Woh Kahn thi’.
    2) ‘Kachin deep jale, Kachin din’ also by Late from the film ‘Bees saal bad’.
    3) Mohammed Rafi’ s mega song ‘Yeh Duniy Yeh mehfil’ from the 1979 ‘Heer Rangha’.
    Bless you both ❤😮

I wouldn't judge the audio quality from these videos. For some reason, some official youtube channels will upload videos with absolute shit audio.. even when the actual audio on the soundtrack (for example when listening to the lyrical version) is good. No idea why... and then they copyright strike ppl who upload higher quality stuff......

In 50s and early 60s , Hindi cinema was at it's peak . And by hindi cinema , i don't mean bollywood. Now , it's an industry which is just producing the same product by the same formula . In those days , there was a sense of AUTHENTICITY in movies , not just in songs but also in writing and acting and by that I mean people could relate to characters and the emotions much more than what it has become today
