Hi, my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent comes from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work, but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I would only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people consider this the lowest time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly, what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving, and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I have been living full-time in my self convert van.

By the way of all the van travellers you're the only one that as soon as I see you posted a video I stop what I'm doing and watch your video. Keep up the good work. I see your artistic touch from the video of you visiting your parents and all your furniture making in highschool!!! How talented you are!!!! Looked into these rollers that has a rubber stamp of wood grain. Your sides are wood but you would hide the blemishes on your ceiling and the end walls with a lighter color and you base coat is the white. They run about $10. US at Walmart online.
I would put that on a platform with storage underneath! Easier in and out, and recoup part of the storage you lost!
Excellent idea I would do it the same and that would be a lot of storage. You could even put two shelves underneath it if you wanted it for shoes and things that were semi-flat.
I was exactly what I was going to say to her. Had to get rid of that other area that she had storage, so if she can put a cabinet below that would be very useful. Also bringing it at a higher level would make it easier for getting into things.
I think at 79 lbs that would be top heavy.
@@birgitelisabeth9661 She can anchor the framing to the wall. She designed furniture so I would think she understands how to balance weight.

I’d build a cabinet under the fridge. Would raise the fridge to counter height and provide additional storage. 😊

What a nice fridge you got Emi, just make sure the vent on the side of the fridge gets enough ventilation because it’s very close to the bed.
Have always been told never wash berries until ready to eat them or cook with them . Just keep cold or freeze , then wash when need them to cook . When washed berries will get mushy fast.

I've always washed mine. Raspberries always fall apart on me tho and get mushy l..Better to toss in freezer n then rinse n eat for sure. Lol Good idea.

Make sure you stand it upright for 24 hours before you start it so the oil can settle back down in the compressor
I know. The thing was completely upside down in the video ... I just bought one and I already knew that and then I noticed it in the instructions past the step of how to turn it on .. SMH 😤
Yep! I was concerned about that as we saw it upended to go into the van
They still make them with that? Mine doesn't. I thought freon and oil were phased out. I learned something new today 😊

Congratulations on the new fridge/freezer. I really like the fact that you can switch between making the freezer or the fridge bigger or smaller to suit your needs. That's a very helpful feature.
Definitely put the insulator on. It even helps out being in the Van.
I hope she utilizes the cover, it will save her energy, and make the frig more efficient.
You might want to use that insulator cover it keeps your stuff cooler using less power.
Emmi sitting on your fridge or setting heavy items can damage the seal. I learned this by reading the manual for my new chest freezer. Super happy for your upgrade you are so happy that's awesome ❤
Yeah, it's better to build a vented trunk and put the fridge inside of it, so your body weight goes on the trunk lid, which is supported by the sides, and your weight never touches the fridge. But that does mean opening 2 lids every time you want to get anything out of your fridge.
One thing I do with extra vegetables is turn part into a vegetable relish. It keeps for months in the fridge without canning. With a 20 minute hot water bath it keeps for more than a year. I use 8 ounce jars. Delicious on salads. I will buy red cabbage this week.

Emmi if you think you will freeze things for a couple of months it would be worth getting a vacuum sealer. It keeps food from freezer burn and it stores better .Happy for you. You seem to be in a really good place mentally. ❤

Now you could build a cabinet up higher above the fridge door open height if you wanted more storage.
That is a good idea because it’s a waste of space. Can’t be too high, just enough that she can still see inside.
@@mimig6932 Keep as much on the deck as you can. I had an old Vdub that was " top heavy". It put the willys up me, even after having it for 12 months. Mind you, we went up and down some scary in/declines in Albion/Alba. Happy times, nonetheless.

Dollar tree has the best little ice packs for pain. They are a gel type substance with a blue cloth covering for only 1.25 . and easily contour to your curves..
very slim and take up small space. I have 3 to swap out on my bad knee.
They woek great I have a few from there I think u can either heat or freeze too. I have one that does both pretty sure it came from the buck store too n their flat so they fit so easy too. They got alot a great stuff there. Lol

Maybe you could do a bed platform with gas struts to help you raise your bed up, and if you do
It a certain way you could have dstruts on side to open either from the front or back or have the bed go straight up. Just a suggestion.

What a great addition to your van! I keep a wheat bag in my freezer for use as a cold pack for aches and pains, much more comfortable than frozen peas or iceblocks 👍

I would build a box to put the fridge on. You can put in drawers or a door with shelves in it for storage

I would think a box at the height of a seat would be most useful and it could have another removable swivel table next to it like before that can be made with piping where the table top stores away, like the lagun table but hand made.

Congratulations on getting your fridge. I have a Dometic. I got it when I was a truck driver. Was awesome having a freezer. And it has 2 doors, also. Made eating healthy a lot easier. I use it in my bedroom now.

Maybe she did that. Her vids are not the same day, and she edits them. I'm sure she knows all that chrome had one n she had one already. Might not even have to-do if it's not an upright. I wish I had gitten this one. I got the upright and it had been banged arround so much it worked once n never worked again. Walmart wouldn't replace it or take it back. I might as well picked it up at the store myself lol this one's nice. I want one now 😊

We always buy fresh berries and freeze them right away, wash them frozen before we use them. If you wash and freeze it makes them mushy.

I am not a van lifer but camp allot .a good hack I used to save on power is to have the store put the whatter bottles in their freezer ☕☕
Love the new fridge, it’s perfect for your van and lifestyle, and it matches too. The large bag might help it to stay cooler and use less energy.
Make sure you have space to circulate a fan and vent have air space. And I agree set it on top of something so you will have the space underneath to store stuff

A great tip for affordable groceries is, seek out Asian Markets. Most carry fruits and vegetables, great competitive pricing and great variety of foods. The cover for the fridge are highly recommended, it will save you energy and control temperatures.
