      Floydthefuckbag That's saying the Ascii fingers and penises when CZcams merged with G+ were memes.. And this is even just on this channel. It's not worthy of the name "meme".

    • @Floydthefuckbag
      @Floydthefuckbag Před 9 lety +1

      ***** I don't think you know what a meme is. You know memes predate the internet, right?
      A meme is an idea, reference, or in-joke that is spread from person to person and changes or 'mutates' like a gene. It has nothing to do with scale. Meme is not some title earned.

      Ok, can you stop with the "Gtx 480" thing? It was over $400 when it came out, and it's still around $200 today. The fact that it's "old" doesn't mean it's bad or low-end in any way.

    • @jedidethfreak
      @jedidethfreak Před 9 lety +18

      ***** The GTX 480, as old as it is, can be downclocked almost 50% and STILL outperforms the PS4 and Xbox One, according to a Linus video where they do exactly that.

    Thanks for the review Rich! Many things you said I really agree with in your review, and when you said "compliment" reminds my thoughts on this product in my own video review, from being able to game on the Alpha to do tasks a desktop can do such as editing/recording. I also agree on the Alpha, while the Alpha UI attempts to lure console gamers, is still best with keyboard and mouse, with controller option. This is only because of a full Windows PC waiting to be used in desktop mode rather than a closed, console like UI.
    I really like your point about the lack of security of the Alpha, since the graphics card is not able to upgrade. Adding that the i3-i7 Alpha options are still intimidating due to the same graphics card still remains. My hope is that this little box is able to find a sweet spot for PC games and its optimization, whether it is the highest settings or lowest, but having the satisfying experience remain.
    I'm to this date enjoying my Alpha, however MY buying factor was its size. I'm in college, record/edit games to music, and a big desktop wasn't what I wanted to travel around. The Alpha's portability eliminates that "flaw" of a desktop (notice the quotations since it isn't really a flaw being a desktop) So with that, the future of this Alpha not only is uncertain, but is not secure do to potentially aging quicker with no upgrading to the gpu. To add, what of the future Steam Machines? How much better would they be? So it's something to see.
    I am and still definitely on the same boat with wanting to recommend it, but you are reluctant to do so with glaring weaknesses. As you said, it depends what you are looking for, that's the bottom line.
    Thanks for the review :)

      I know I've complained about changes before and put my foot in my mouth a month later, but it's been a long time and I still can't stand Win8. It's just... It's like using a tablet, not a desktop. It's nice for the Surface, or maybe even some of the laptops, but it just makes the computer feel like a toy, and while it has some convenient features for light use, technical stuff is a pain to do with it.
      When I saw it I thought I was going to hate it then not mind it, but I've spent a lot of time with it and I hate it even more...

    I think this Alienware is pretty useless, you are better off building a mini ITX gaming PC, its decently small, you can fit inside the parts you want like i7 CPUs or powerful GPUs like GTX980s, you spend less money and it performs like 50 times better. This Alienware Alpha should have been priced 400 bucks for the core i5.

    what's a good gaming PC to purchase between $400-$500 range? I don't really want to build one even tho it might be cheapest route. On BestBuy website I was looking at the CyberPower AMD FX series - 8gb memory - 500gb hard drive. The PC runs AMD FX 4300 processor and AMD Radeon R7 240 graphics card. I want to run most steam games and regular PC games at normal settings. I don't need to be setup on ultra settings but I want it to look decent.

I love the portability and how its like a console (grew up playing xbox) and would play games like cod, etc on an xbox (id rather play on it because i could play with friends). Would this work for me.

Knowing this, would you still recommend it?

    Hi Rich, so I've been hearing about dule core prossesors 2 threads per core. So the PC can still run 4 tasks at a time. I'm pretty sure this will not be as good as an actual quad core but I'm wondering if you'll still be able to run new games on low settings with a quad threaded CPU.
    Looking up the stats on the CPU listed on the website, I see that the Intel® Core™ i3-4130T Dual-Core processor has 4 threads. Obviusly having 4 cores would be better but maybe this is why they feel it's acceptible for a budget system?
    I would be interested to see actual performance on one of the lower systems. Since that seems to be the real question to me. Obviusly new games will run on the best stuff. Perhaps the "budget" one is only meant for older games, but if Dragon Age Inquisition and other quad core games will run that would be a huge plus.
    I've gotten 4yrs out of my current PC. I did upgraded my graphics late last year but it remained unchanged for 4yrs. To be fair, it was a bit of a beast when I bought it.

    I see people finding stuff to complain about in these review videos, like the lighting is not perfect or its filmed on a pone or whatever.But honestly they are missing the point, the review itself, and i the review is really good, its honest, detailed but concise and to the point as well.And most importantly it provides useful information to the consumer witch is the whole point of reviewing. So good job Rich keep it up.

    Hey. So I am an Xbox one S owner and although I do enjoy it, there are some games that Steam has that I simply can't play on Xbox one S. Tales of Berseria is on PS4 and while I can figuratively go out and get a PS4 and play that, there are other games that I can't get on the PS4 or the Xbox One S. These include Split Second, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and other games that might only be exclusive to PC. Would you recommend it to me if I simply wanted a machine for my Steam account, or should I go out and get a desktop computer?

    I have a question. If I add a non-steam game to my Steam Library will it seamlessly play in Big Picture Mode? Meaning that I can select the icon and selecting it launches the game without glitching out to Windows and leaving the Alienware UI?

    • @yabloyoynk1300
      @yabloyoynk1300 Před 9 lety

      Yes it will play just fine. The only thing is that you will not have the pretty looking graphic that accompanies its icon in "steam big picture mode".

    Love my Alienware alpha, had to say that. Also I believe you nailed the review because although the biggest downside for me was the fact the GPU was the same across the board it didn't stop me from purchasing the highest spec because I was looking for something affordable but still realize as a creation tool... Just saying thanks for the reassurance on my decision

    Actually just ordered one of these and they've made some changes, the hard drive it ships with is now a 7200rpm drive, and the controller is now secondary, it automatically comes with a keyboard and mouse and mine had a special offer with that that they included a controller, and it's priced much lower now at $650, so it definitely seems like a much better deal now compared to when they were fairly new to the market.

    How would the wifi connection be since there is 12 devices connected to my router. My ps4 connection is god awful, I can't download games or play multiplayer games without dedicated servers. Any pc experts think the connection will run better even with the 12 devices connected? And can you play split screen games on it aswel, like blops2 zombies. Im really considering selling my ps4 and getting this. Some non trolling feedback would be much appreciated... and I just watched a 20 minute review that didn't cover these two subjects, so I'm just posting on other videos to try and get some feedback.

    it's small but it seems bigger than a NUC, right? Those are blowers (not fans) so is it noisy at full load? I don't believe you're right about physics (Phys-X) because when running the physics test on the Fire Strike benchmark running an an old GTX 550 Ti didn't get any better FPS results when it ran it on my new GTX 980. I think that's due to Phys-X hasn't been upgraded or improved much at all in the past few years since nvidia acquired Phys-X.
    So $750 for that PC? I think i can build something better than that on my own with that budget.

    Rich, while waiting for your review, I went ahead and bought the i7 top tier model. I looked all over CZcams, and decided to take a chance. I came away very impressed. We've all bashed this thing because of the price and the mobile GPU, myself included. However, due to the fact that it's Maxwell architecture, it still runs every game at above console level. Many games run at Ultra even with AA enabled. For example, it runs Dead Rising 3 at maxed out settings at 1080p, even above 30fps if you turn off the frame cap. I love that game on the Xbox One, but it only ran at 720p and sometimes below 30fps.
    Using tools like Precision X, I was able to overclock and push games further. Once I made my upgrades to 16GB or Corsair Vengeance RAM and a Samsung 500GB 840 EVO SSD, this thing flies.
    When I ran Max Payne 3 at the highest settings at 1080p and 60fps with no overclock, that is when I realized that this thing is better than the sum of its parts. I know that you could build a more powerful rig for less money, but you can't build anything as small or aesthetically pleasing and portable. That's where Alienware hit this out of the park. I'm still in awe of the power everytime I see this tiny Wii-sized box sitting next to my PS4 and Xbox One.

    i know this video was posted a year ago . but i think you may have been wrong about shelf life . i think it really depends on what your playing and what your using it for as well as compromises your willing to make . i play witcher 3 at 30 fps on medium at 1080p on the base model (mine was actually an alienware steam machine that i loaded windows onto) but its a great little device . i have a 1400$ gaming rig but this was supposed to replace my consoles and thats exactly what it did . one unified library many new games many GREAT games and i couldnt be happier . yea i may upgrade the cpu in the future but thats personal choice and a purchase ide be happy to make to keep this machine running for a long time
