These boats get all the glory! I will never stop loving them and the teams that were on them. It was the best of times for me!

In some how you are right, but now it’s hydrofoil, i don’t think we’ll ever look back. Remember sportsmanship is not longer on top of the list, bud money ..!

Always fantastic to watch these boats.

Slower than the AC75's, but the drama tension and skills of all the sailors are equal to, even greater than today. In saying that i am still waiting with anticipation for the Prada cup and AC cup regatta's. Sailing fan forever.

The technical feat of the AC75's is amazing. The seamanship needed of the crew is close to nil.
There was close racing and tactics in the older monohulls AND most of the crew knew how to hoist and set a sail ...

I agree I've been a fan since 88 when Dennis Connor took the cup back. My dilemma and also the America's cup defenders dilemma is how to reduce costs but also still be the pinnacle and innovative

@@Rainman... well when you have to team up as billionaires, and then sum, to afford something and only 4 nations are willing to compete, it's getting what I'd call a tad expensive as to the technology used...! LOL.
Foiling is exciting and it has been proven so by the world 50ft multihull cup. Fast, close racing, dangerous at times and reserved for the very fit.
Ac75's are amazing things as are the foiling monohulls racing the world in the Vendee Globe race.
They should put a cap on the expenses allowed and use monohulls like the Vendee Globe, maybe a bit tweeked for course racing. THAT would still be alot of fun and something that every day sailors could dream about.
The AC 75's could be raced virtually on screen with the crew in a dark room on winches etc and drones out on the water to give real time feed back of the real time weather conditions - water temp, wind, intesnsity, direction etc.
Feed it all into a computer and hey presto you have inages and positioning of these craft.
It would allow for VERY close racing as they could (and would) cut each other up virtually knowing that no harm would be done. That's where they are heading with this.
Solution: Realistic monohulls such as the Vendee Globe ones, and a cap on maximum expense.
I love the double mainsail. Have been tampering with one for years and they really work.

It's amazing how much the footage "deteriorates"! This was 2003 but could've easily been mistaken for 93 >_

Watching in these days the World Series, where humans become battery charger is absolutly the worst thing happened to this amazing competition... hope they back to this boats asap...

Similar to F1 the dilemma for the defender will be how to reduce cost but still innovate and stay the pinnacle of sailing. I'm sure the sponsors feel differently but I could care less about the trickle-down effect..

    • @martincitodelaselva4446
      @martincitodelaselva4446 Před 2 lety +1

For sure ... today there are no longer any racers or sailors on the AC boats ... cyclists, a pilot and a co-pilot to follow the GPS ... no more change of sails ...
A boring show for a larger audience and therefore more profitable for the sponsors ...
      The AC is dead ...

Oracle should take their penalty just after crossing the mark, so that it fowls Alinghi's airflow.
