People.forget exactly how *tight* these 50s and 60s bands were. They are playing this in real time I'm almost 100% sure. Theres no dubbing, no cheater instrumental track for filler. This is just a group of guys who loved playing together. And they got good, and got their timing down PAT.
Good point. I made same observation when seeing Huey Lewis live. They don’t need to play to a backing track or lip synch. They always only play live and I’ve never heard a tighter band in my life.
@@suzannenoa9736 It eventually did matter. When the teenage idols caught on to what Bill Haley did, they completed the formula teenagers were looking for: music FOR teenagers BY teenagers, and Bill Haley's run was over.
Saw his concert 1958 in Hamburg. They had the crazy idea to place rows of chairs into the normally empty concert hall. We smashed them all. You might imagine what they wrote in the newspapers the day after. Saw him and his Comets again in 1962 in famous Star Club. He died too early.
Him standing up there delivering that synchronized driving performance. Takes a real special person to blaze trails, and take people with you. Much respect.
That raw and fantastic original rock and roll sound in 1981 when new wave was all the rage he and his band reminding everyone how it's actually supposed to be played
One of rock and roll's absolute masters. Saw him live in concert twice. The mind still boggles. With all due respect to Joe Turner (who did an earlier version), Bill Haley and the Comets OWN Shake, Rattle And Roll. They delivered it with the power, precision and fury that the song itself demanded. Bill is greatly, greatly missed.
Im 13 and i listen to bill haley every day. You would of thought i would be listening to some dude rapping using autotune but no. Long live bill haley and his music
Chuck Berry and all the (Black) real fathers of R & R that the VVhite boys stole the music from and never paid them a penny. Elvis vvas the vvorst of them ALL.
Thank God for the people who post great video clips like this one, If Heaven has a Band it must have one hell of a line up. Won't you come home Bill Halley, wont you come home. Sorely missed by everyone down here.
Hallo.
If you was not there you don’t know what you missed was the most awesome time ever for music rock on rock on brovo for the 50s 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💐👍👍👍👍👍
Joe Turner didn't write it either. Jesse Stone did. In fact, Haley's version and Tuner's version both appeared on the radio within a couple of weeks of each other. Neither influenced the other.
When I hear 🙉 this song it's like I'm all a kid again going to save every penny so I can buy from Spoils and Crazy clints bargains and also Bilo which I mostly bought all my old CDs from, including Elvis Presley and Don Gibson.
This looks more recent than the 50's. Bill Haley looks older here, but same hair style. The people in the audience look more like the 70's aside from the retro hair style some of the women are wearing here. 70's was an era of nostalgia, thanks to American Graffiti.
Seems to be a show in England at Hammersmith Palais (March 25, 1974) with British Freddy (not "Freddie)! Moore on drums and also from the US, Nick Nastos/Masters, Rudy Pompilli and others. I saw the show in Liège (Belgium) on May 14, 1974. Quite great!!! I still get 2 photographs! Guitar and vocals, Ray Parsons; Bs gtr & vcls, Ray Cawley. In Belgium at the Liège Conservatory, Nastos played as said by Bill "Blue Spanish Eyes on electric Spanish guitar".
Actually Haley is covering a tune originally recorded a few months earlier in 1954 by Big Joe Turner and was written by Charles E. Calhoun (Jesse Stone). Whereas Haley's was a cover it was more upbeat and traditionally rock & roll while Turner was more blues in style. Haley's version later helped Turner's career and the two remained friends for years. Very interesting histor on this song. More under: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shake,_Rattle_and_Roll
Great entertainer but by the mid 1960s here in Australia he was old hat ! The public had col joy Johnny o Keefe Booker hyland little patty etc he was great while he lasted!!!

AND they weren’t as young as their target audience but it didn’t matter! Wrap your head around that!

@gordonherring2055 right.. Buddy Holly.. The Beatles..
But still.. Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee weren't all that young either

It's 2020 - and if Bill Haley came out today with this version of this song I am convinced he'd still tear the houses down.

I thought that I could see Colin Crompton just in shot over on the right.
One of the last real Bandleader. He preferred the backround when a member of his band plays his part

Blitz Magazine both songs came out at the same time weeks apart. how Turner didn't write the song some one else wrote it
@@appizano592 SRR was written by Jesse Stone who went under the pen name Charles Calhoun. Turner recorded it first, Bill Haley did later
I never thought I'd find this song performed live by him! I feel a little more complete ♥

@@thevintagebrit6723 imo I prefer Bill Haley sheerly for the fact it has more of 50s swing feel
Psh nerd
Bill Haley & the Comets are streaking across the heavens as we speak right now. And yes they're still jamming!
The band name was apparently Mandela effected. It was now never "The Comets". It's now always been "His Comets".
@@TheRealNewWhirledOrder fascinating.
The start of rock & roll. I listened since 1960,s. I saw him at Wembly in the 70,s
