If you told me a year ago Darrius would make it into another mortal kombat game I would have laughed at you. If I’m not mistaken he is a rebellious warrior from the order realm that opposes harsh rulership. For those who forgot Shujinko was imprisoned for decades in the order realm for simply walking around during a curfew 😂

Something is telling me that baraka was originally like a warlord of a tribe or the leader of a tribe that was the first of his people to be infected with the tarkat disease. Because he seems to be the only one who has the mental capacity to be diplomatic and strategic
There's also some kind of scary on his chest that makes me think that he might've been experimented on to learn more about the disease

You missed during Baraka’s command Grab there is a model of the Pyramid from Armageddon on the table behind him, and all over the room their are Minotaur Skulls and right when Baraka’s head gets spun around you can see an X-ray of Motaro

The Umgadi and the Dora Milaje (from Black Panther) are very similar. Both groups of woman that are a group of warriors for their royal families. Both leaders of the groups (Lei Mei and Okoye) were both cast out because they both failed to protect one of their royal family members. Ed Boon sure took some inspo 😂😂

I think I have a story mode theory. Everything is going to focus on the conflict of the Outworld. Probably a plot generated by General Shao, Reiko, Rain and Tanya to take control of the Outworld after killing King Jerrod. Maybe that's why Tanya is the new leader of the Umgadi. She participated in it to get Li Mei out of the way. In addition, having the heiress of the Outworld as her "bestie" and with a dangerous disease, she can be easily influenced.

Yep. There was footage at SDCC that outright told us that General Shao is forming a regime to usurp the Outworld throne, and confirmed Reiko and Motaro as two of General Shao’s (for lack of a better word) sidekicks. Plus it confirms Reiko as a playable character and most likely Motaro as a Kameo!
Also to add to your theory: I think Jade will be working with Shao Kahn as a countess. She wasn’t shown in the Umgadi trailer so she’s most definitely not an Umgadi, one of the intro dialogues shows Liu Kang telling Kitana to “keep countess Jade close” (which suggests that Kitana and Jade aren’t that close or don’t know each other), and that one Ed Boon interview said that characters who were friends in the past timeline could be enemies in the new timeline.

I have a feeling Darrius and Goro may be those story-only kameo characters, because their design looks fitting to the story mode (unlike the kameo characters we saw in earlier trailers, who have their retro skins.) Or they won’t be unlocked until the end of the story.

Darrius was also shown in a fatality outro. You don’t get those in story. So he’s definitely a kameo in and outside of the story

Brother, Tanya's weapon is designed after a Chinese weapon called the "3 section staff". It's extremely difficult to use as you can imagine!

A theory about the person Baraka is talking about when he says "if he could have helped he would have done so by now" I'm pretty sure he means Liu kang since right before he says that kenshi tells mileena that maybe Liu kang can find a cure, just a thought that I found interesting

My man Baraka stole the show in this trailer! I loved how he played in MK11, so if he remains a super offensive rush-down character (as the trailer suggests), he will most likely be my main! That is... until Havik is revealed.

And along with it the classic mortal kombat aesthetic, purple sky’s and acid pit dungeons have been replaced with pretty trees and sunshine.

The gameplay became 3D in MK4. 3D evironments, 3D fatalities. Tanya is a 3D era character. Deadly Alliance was the first MK fighter that was made exclusively for platforms. (MK Trilogy was an expansion of MK3 and Mythologies and Special Forces were action games)
By 3d era, don't people mean when sidestepping was introduced (3d movement)? It has little to do with the models, I think.

If you listen to both kenshi and baraka they mention liukang seemingly this affliction wasnt planned by liukang. Seems like even though he changed time some things are inevitable.
Makes me wonder if Armageddon is eventually gonna happen despite all the changes.
I think a small part of that was because he made sure that Mileena came back for Kitana's sake (pretty sure that happens in MK11). So the virus could be an unintentional side effect of bring back Mileena. I think it would be fun if a similar thing happens as a result of him erasing the other gods (except Fujin) But that is my theory

In Ermac's ending in MK9 (which is definetely not canon, but still), Jerod is revealed to be one of the many souls inside him, and kinda takes over the rest, becoming a single individual.

Dude darrius had such a interesting story tbh being a freedom fighter for the order realm but his design and character never got flushed out
Two things, minor things I thought was interesting.
1. Li Mai is wearing Mileenas colors - Purple and Black.
2. Kenshi isn't blind with Mileena with the look for the cure.
I am glad Baraka is in this, and yes, he looks good. I wonder if we will get a human skin for him as an alternate costume.

1: if she is in the trailer does that she is gonna be fully playable or is she gonna be only in story? ( like cyrax and sektor in mk11 ) i hope she is fully playable
2: considering she was only playable in n64 version of mk trilogy and wii version of armageddon does that mean she is gonna be a switch exclusive? that would be suck:(
The way she stands there and doesn't really do anything makes me think Kameo, granted she was only shown for a second if that, the onlquestion is will she be story mode only kameo or selectable in the rest of the game.
I don't think there are story only Kameos besides it feels like an odd choice for Khamelon or Darrius who are from different realms to be partnering up with Tanya. So I think they choice those two because they wanted to reveal them. It has been said before that you will be able to choose who the fighters partner up with in an earlier interview. So the Kameo's are probably just them choosing them for fun and not for story

Umgadi isn't referring to a character I believe its a faction either a clan or tribe but based on the fact none are related by blood also when Liu Kang refers to the Umgadi he states they are a tribe of " Warrior priestess's" which in turn leads me to surmise that the Umgadi above all else identify as more of a Cult of sorts when compared to the other tribes, factions, clans etc..
Considering there doesnt se to be an edenia anymore, i'm guessing that's what they are doing with those characters now

I'm so glad to see Li Mei and Tanya playable in a modern MK again... especially Li Mei ( long overdue) Baraka being playable two games in a row is something I didn't expect.... but I'm not complaining either... he looks awesome, design wise and game play 👌. Darrius being in this game at all was not on my bingo card 😅😅😅
Also I'm honestly surprised TrueUnderdawg didn't realize or mentioned that Khameleon was standing directly behind Tanya... especially since she's wearing her costume from Armageddon 😮.

Her new design is different, but like I said about Ermac yesterday... as long as Tanya is fun to play and watch competitively, which from the trailer looks highly likely... I'm not going to worry about her character model yet. Besides, with the possibility of alternate skins or an update to her face scan... ( NRS has done that before tbh) ... she might look completely different by the games release in September . Remember, this is still work-in progress, so we gotta withhold judgment on the character models until Evo at the earliest or at launch 🤷🏽👍

Looks like they're finally doing Baraka justice again. He's been decent since MK9 but he hasn't looked this fun to play in a long time IMO.
Reiko is in the game. Motaro is in the game. And i think Nitara is in the game since there's a leaked video where you hear a shriek at the end.........i think some of us knew we'd see these characters again.

SDCC has an extended version of the scene at 0:45 - just before Li Mei bursts from the back of the carriage there is a scene with two extra characters (not spoiling who those two are out of respect for True Underdawg). No word on whether those two characters are playable, kameo, or only in the main story.

That 3section staff is called many things but coiling dragon staff is the one English name I know for it. And that dog like thing for Li Mei is call a Shisa which was originally Chinese guardian lion used as a ward for bad juju.
