Foildrive Gen2 Max First Rides with Review

    We take our first rides on the new Gen2 Foildrive Max. Charge time of 3 hours and an efoil run time of 45min so estimated assist run time of 2 hours+. The new 40v batteries are POWERFUL even with the 2-blade prop on there. We will do more testing and keep posting. If you have a question or have something you want us to try comment below.

    Great video....No need for the 3 blade prop? It sounds like the 2-blade had plenty of torque and power with the 40v battery.

      Still going to want the 3-blade prop for smaller wings and bigger folks. We just finished the 2-blade to 3-blade prop on this unit with the 910 png foil wing and needed that 3-blade on there for sure for the extra push. 😁

    Shouldn't the prop be further down the mast? Seems like it would be a slim margin between board on the water and prop out of water.

      The foildrive setup is made to help riders propel themselves into waves and swell using the power of the wave or swell to push the foil along...once they get up on foil and are on the wave or swell the motor is turned off and ideally out of the water to reduce drag. There are efoil (longer length cables) options available to turn this unit into more of an efoil where the motor is in the water the entire time. Hope that makes sense.

    I didn't follow your commentary on how this is expected to work with a smaller sinker board (under 40L).

      The reason this will work with a sinker is the connection between the controller and the motor unit is unaffected by being underwater. Normal Foildrive or efoils lose connection with the controller once they go underwater so if you have a sinker board...as soon as you push it under you're "sunk" so to speak. With this setup you can start moving and submerge the board while you're paddling up and still power up to foil and standing. Sinker boards will mainly be used by wingers and prone paddlers where they are helping the unit get onfoil by arm paddle for prone and wing for winging. When the unit is submerged or when using a small sinker style board in general there is a HUGE increase in drag so you will need some physical assist to get the board on plane and up on the foil. Hope that helps
