    Okay I have a question. I am doing the timing belt on a 2017 Ford Eclipse so once I put that crankshaft pin and in turn the crankshaft clockwise and once the crankshaft stops I'm pretty much lined up correct. Or what else do I have to do

    You really only need to use the rear plate on the cams if you're replacing the vvt gear. You don't have to go thru taking the valve cover off etc just to do timing belt.

  • @mikethemobilemechanic2683

    Was this just a timing belt replacement job or was there another reason for this repair, I see alot of these cars at my shop but are so new i never notice any problem...was there a problem with this one?

      All the pulleys are friction fit. You must use the timing tools to insure correct timing.

      he went way over kill. You do not need to take valve cover off or starter. All you need to do is lock the cams together and lock the crank shaft.

      @@eugenecurley5328 go on Amazon and buy the timing tool kit for that engine. You should only have to install the TDC stop peg and the cam phaser holding tool. Make sure that you’re at TDC by removing #1 spark plug and inserting a long screwdriver into the cylinder.

    as far as i understand the official instructions do not advise you to remove the valve cover and lock the camshafts locking the sprockets is all it shows? is there a reason for this.

    • @larryreno8293
      @larryreno8293 Před rokem

      Yes, because he didn’t read the service manual. You are correct, you do not need to remove the cam cover to replace the timing belt.

    • @em8819
      @em8819 Před rokem

      I guess he did that for a safety back up to another safety back to another. Some Hondas and Toyotas not even a single tool as long as you align the TDC thats it.

    The maintenance schedule for '15 Escape 1.6 L shows 150K mile replacement interval for the timing belt. So, you're saying to disregard this and replace belt at 100K miles?

      I’ve never seen a belt recommendation that high. Maybe you saw kilometers?

    • @wrifraff
      @wrifraff Před 3 lety +1

      They consider the life of a vehicle 150,000 miles. They also say the transmission is a sealed unit and should be replaced at the same time. Or you can do "early" preventative maintenance, and keep everything running longer.

    • @Dogpool
      @Dogpool Před 3 lety

      @@wrifraff What is it your trying to say? I don’t understand. That you should just run it without replacing the belt because it’s garbage at 150k anyway? As far as I’ve always seen, a rubber timing belt is very likely to brake or teeth sheer off at miles over 100k.

    • @wrifraff
      @wrifraff Před 3 lety

    • @jeffclark5024

      To do the timing belt you need the cam sprocket lock the TDC pin and the flex plate holding tool that goes where the starter normally goes. It is not necessary to remove the valve cover. Which I see is removed in this video
