    If you lost zone colress off the top it signals to your opponent your obviously holding one already and if they have access to Marnie your almost certainly getting your hand replaced

    • @jamesctcg
      @jamesctcg  Před rokem +6

      100% worth considering with smaller hands for sure but usually if they it barely changes anything if they wanna marnie they marnie if they don't they don't. Usually making a decision like that on turn 1 based on your opponent's lz is a bad play - have won multiple games off Lugias going Lumineon for marnie t1 and bricking and board locking themselves

    James this video is so helpful. Nobody else is talking through these decisions in a much detail as you are and for me (as you are a better player than me) it’s brilliant to hear you speak out your thought process. Good work and very valuable content 😊

    This is actually amazing, I love the insight into your decision making. I'm really interested in the situation right at the start of game 2 ~14:15, you go into a large amount of quality detail on this situation, but I still have questions lmao. You have double comfey, gren and VIP available in hand/board. My instincts tell me to use the VIP right away to get guru+manaphy before using gren/comfey cus all I want in play by the end of turn 1 is 2 comfeys, gren, guru and manaphy (1 spot free for appropriate attacker for turn 2 ig), which is achievable simply by playing VIP.
    So my question is, is it just correct to play VIP straight away, thin those 1 ofs out, so you're more likely to see gates/supporters/energy for your comfey/gren draws?
    You also mention you're not sure what other pokemon you'd want to get into play, so other than guru+manaphy, what other mons would you want to grab with VIP in that situation?

    • @ConnorKrohnicles
      @ConnorKrohnicles Před rokem

      Great question I’d like answered too

    • @jamesctcg
      @jamesctcg  Před rokem +4

      Without the max amount of basics you always want to draw first, because basics are good cards, but worth noting, this deck plays very few ways to search Pokémon past turn one, and will continue to have the same issue in the next format, so generally so far I’ve found that drawing for basics even when you have the maximum amount of basics is better as it means if you draw a basic you can get a different basic off VIP pass and then have the other basic in hand to use on that turn or later, so you won’t have to search for it on a following turn. Also not having to use quick balls early can be very helpful later. But this is one of the closer decisions in this video and thinning 2 Pokémon is almost statistically irrelevant, but I would argue the habit of vip pass last is better than vip pass first, but I’m sure there are many arguments for both sides.

    Lost box newb question here: with a vanilla lost box list, do you want to go first or second? With the chance to use a supporter it feels like bricking a setup is less likely going second. But I'd assumed going first was normally the better choice.

      @jamesctcg  Před rokem +1

      Next video on what lzb looks like post rotation (in terms of lists) mostly just nets for switch cards + beach court and quick/captures for nest balls. The rest is tech changes

    • @GregC187
      @GregC187 Před rokem

      Awesome, any thoughts on playing an irida? You have kyogre, manaphy, greninja and cramorant and also I've been thinking about adding lumineon, search a colress on slow hands and potentially just attach mirage gate, 130 damage on greninja or things cramorant just misses plus no liability on bench?

    • @jamesctcg
      @jamesctcg  Před rokem

      Irida when compared to colress is incredibly weak and raihan is probably just better anyways, worth thinking about tho. Lumineon good but especially post rotation there isn't really a way to search it so playing pokegear is probably more helpful. Both are worth considering for sure though

    Wanted to further ask about using gren/comfey before a VIP pass on the first turn. If I use the VIP pass and I know what I want, then wouldn't using the gren/comfey digging after give me more value to get cards I'd need down the line?

    • @christianlamb
      @christianlamb Před rokem

      Same question 🤔

    • @jamesctcg
      @jamesctcg  Před rokem +1

      Well basics can be things you need down the line as well, wrote a lot on this question in another reply, it’s certainly debatable, but if you don’t have all the basics you need is the main priority, especially for like getting manaphy or smthing you wanna make sure you do it turn 1 because it becomes harder to find after that. When you have the maximum amount of basics then I would suggest vip first

      In Utrecht I cut keeper for Roxanne, I probably wouldn’t do that again but certainly consider playing Roxanne maybe over Raihan. I would also be tempted to cut temple for a 3rd quick ball, but dunno if that’s correct at all.

    I didn't understand the rule of uncertain actions first.... can you say more on that please.

    • @jamesctcg
      @jamesctcg  Před rokem +4

      Sure, essentially any action that you don’t know what will happen, mainly drawing cards off anything like greninja/comfey/colress you want to do before you do an action where you know what will happen with completing that action, such as attaching energy or benching a Pokémon, because you never know what will be changed by doing the “uncertain/unknown” action first

    why would you not VIP pass before flowering, concealed cards, or colress first? isn't it thinning the deck and youd won't risk having to discard/LZing the pokemon you are searching for ?

    • @jamesctcg
      @jamesctcg  Před rokem

      Well ideally you want to get the Pokémon in your flower select/colress/greninja draws so you can have more Pokémon, as that is generally more important than anything else turn 1.
